lots of talk about weak steering posts....i have a 99 x with a 6" riser no troubles yet but what should i be looking for??? where do they break?? and what can a guy do to rectify the problem....reinforce or replace ...Thanks
99 was ZX chassis, the steering stem is stronger. On the S-chassis sleds, they bend right at the upper bushing to the handlebar mount. When you Pull on the bars, all the force goes to the upper bushing. The steering stem is Hollow. After my 3rd stem, I cut the top plate off my stem, and shoved in a piece of solid stock as far as I could, then welded the top plate back on. this stiffened it up HUGE. I now have a 8" riser and No bending whatsoever. Added maybe 2Lb
