600 Motors ? 1999 - 2010 Diffrences

What if any are the major diffrences between the older 600 motors and the new ones.

I had friends in including (Jack Struthers) who really built the older 600 to run.

How about the newer 600HO motor ?

I am looking at a 09 600 Shift.

I have a 700-800-900 now.

I've got 6,000 miles on my 07 RMK 600 (just got back from McCall/Stanley). It still runs quite strong with an SLP single and still has 120 lbs. compression on each cylinder.

I encountered my first mechanical problem with this sled when I had to limp back to Warm Lake from Stanley with a jackshaft bearing about to go (no zerk fitting on these like the drive shaft bearing). Made it back and am replacing the bearing today ($20).

The 600s are great sleds, decent climbers, great throttle response, but a little thirstier than the CFI 700s and 800s.

We ride with five other 07/08 RMK 600s and have had no problems with any of them, great lightweight fun sleds.

The original 600's were of the big block variety using the original 700 crank, absolutely bulletproof. In 2000 the new smallblock version appeared making more hp than the original, still bulletproof. In 06 the HO version came out, still bulletproof, which is basically the same as the 09's 'cept for the FI. I own a couple of dragon 8's, one stock and one turbo and a couple of 600s-one being a 660. That being stated the fun factor and hands down reliability goes to the 600s, they're damned hard to beat.

Over 6300 miles on my 07 600 HO RMK now. Compression is still 120 on each side. I replaced jackshaft and drive shaft bearings over the summer. Awesome sled, very thirsty though. LOL.

I put on over 11500 trouble free miles on a 99 RMK600 with SLP single pipe and can. That engine is probably one of the strongest motors ever built by Polaris. We just bought some new 2010 RMK600's with CFI-4. Gas mileage is way better with the CFI. Throttle response is very good on the new 600. Hopefully it is as trouble free as the old one.

Keep the Comments / Info comming

I so nice to hear positive things about a Model of Sled instead of so much negative.

I might just go down to Carls and get Jack to build me a 600 --- something

I have a 06 600 iq with 3200 miles on it various mods have been done and virtually no problems, also have a 08 600 iq carbed model thing realy rips for a 600 and it has over 1400 miles on it again virtualy no problems what so ever (knock on wood)

I have an 08 600HO and an 08 800 drag. The 800 has been well...it used to run better..then came the reflashes and a few melt downs.

The 600 has been almost problem free. I did have a primary clutch that was replaced during warranty. SLP pipe and some extra intake vents and clutch venting and it is a very strong performer no complaints. IT just runs consistantly very well!
