600 and 800 power NOT impressed!

Need some help here. The 6 has much less power than her 06 600 ho. It is brand new 30 miles. Do these have a break in program or something? Am I expecting too much?

The 2011 800 we just picked up are great, but the power is less than expected. Just came from a d7 and d8 granted they had pipes and clutched.
The 7 pulled 64 grams at 8200 and the 8 pulled 66 grams at 4000 ft.
Up in McCall and the pros have 62 grams and will barely pull 7900 to 8000.
They do have stock helixes. I know they would perform better if they had 40 degree finish angle.
Love the sleds but I need some help from you fellas!
Thanks Gary

The 8 wakes up after about 2 tanks of fuel. You're running breaking fuel now, besides. Can't speak to the 6. If you mean you pulled 64g at 8200ft with the D7, you will not be able to pull 64g with a stock pro 8 at 8200ft, more like 62g, and 60g if you're headed to 10k.

On the 800, assuming that it is used, the clutching is probably sacked out. I had to put new springs in my '11 and it made a world of difference.

break in

I don't know if this is representative of all but my new pro 800 would only pull around 8050 with stock 10-62(actually 63, I pulled them out and weighed them). This was on the trail at about 4500'. After about 6hrs or so the thing came to life. Can easily pull 8450, put in 68gram dual radius MDS weights and can pull 8350 on trail and 8200 in 2' of fresh at 6000', still playing with the clutch weighting at the moment. Give it a chance to wake up, hope it works out for ya.

my bone stock 8 pulls 68 grams to 3000 -3500 ft then 66;s over that..also on both the 6 and 8's, make sure you exchange out the ethanol plug if you are running non ethanol fuel.(comess from polaris with the ethanol plug installed)

For what it's worth the first ride on my 8 I never saw anything over 7800 on the tach. Towards the end of the second ride it was staying constantly at 8150 which is about where I want it. Second ride out it felt much stronger and smooth. Iv heard others talk on here about there being some sort of a break in on these sleds. Try waiting to see what it does after about 3-4 hours on the engine. I honestly haven't noticed any pro I rode being under powered. Even after switching back and forth from an m8 to a pro. The pro actually felt more powerful in about 2 foot of fresh. Good luck I hope you get everything sorted out and keep us posted on the results!

Not sure what my Assault came with, most likely stock RMK clutching..10-62's ?
Put on a real short trail ride 2 weeks ago, ran very good, but only put about 20 trail km's on it, breaking in belts etc as well.
Went to Blue River area this past Thursday. Lots of trail riding again, but also meadows etc.
Elevation 1500' at parking lot to almost 7000' up top. Couple feet of fresh, good solid base underneath. I kinda freaked out as on the way up more looking at engine tems than anything else and again, breaking in my "spare" belt.
On way down paid more attention to the tach. Would hit 8400 and 8500 at 4000' on the trail. Only thing I changed out was I installed the Carl's helix from my '10 Dragon...
Clutches ran cool, thinking once it gets broken in (still only ran 3/4 of tank thru it), toss it back to non-ethanol on the fuel plug, should almost be able to pull 64's at elevation..??

both need break in miles for chip to "burn in" My 800 ran about 7900 for first 70 some miles, now runs 8350 @6500ft with 68 gr mtx weights. Wifes 600 pulls same as her D700 that was piped.

We have done quite a few impromptu drag tests with D800's in our group and the bone stock Pro 800 is dead even with a D800 that is running 08 program with the early 08 high compression head, stock pipe with a can.

Thanks, for the info. My starting post was a little fuzzy. The 6 is brand new, 30 miles , stock clutching, the plug that is in says non-ethanol. Looking in the manual the plug they show looks like it is 2 sided eth, non-eth?

The 8's are used 425 and 1100 miles they should be broke in. Again stock everything and plug says non-ethanol.
What to expect?
Thanks so far.

Also make sure your belt deflection is setup correctly.... this makes a big difference.

i bought a new RMK 800 this year after riding M8s and to say the least RMK 8 is gutless compared to my cat even when it was stock.

Funny, I felt the same way. Then I climb and it goes as high or higher than the DOO or cat sleds I ride with. but if you feel that way then you bought the wrong sled for the way you ride. Sell it and get a cat or doo, no reason to be miserable for an entire season.

Just curious, what elevation is McCall and your other riding areas.:canada:

McCall is 5000 ft riding at 5500-7000 the 8's still won't pullp over 8000 rpms. I will check the exhaust valves and clean and make sure the the bleed holes are clean. The more we ride our pros the more amazing they are!! The deeper the snow the better they perform. The turbo should be waiting at home when I get back. I am sure it will be all smiles from then on.

Granite is 8,400ft...:face-icon-small-hap

Once it burns through the break in chip, it should get much better. Friends Stock 2011 RMK beat my 09D8 with full slp setup...they run good.

Not sure what your expectations are but if you are hoping for significant more power than what the Pro 800 has then I suggest a turbo or swap to another sled. The Doo and Cat have more dyno HP but neither are going to take you any higher (general statement for general conditions). The Pro is about the boondocking chassis and incredible knack for getting up on top of the snow. Sounds like you need a 300hp turbo Apex. Also, there is no way a stock '06 600 has more power than a '12 Pro 600.

I have a turbo waiting at home for my 8. I suppose I am a little spoiled for power comeing from a 995 cmx to a 975 with a turbo. The power is good but maybe it's so linear that it feels soft. I have rode it 3 short times with no friends to compare it to.
The 6 is almost thru the 100 mile break in period and I do expect it to out perform my old 6 ho, that's why I asked if it had a break in tune.

You just hit the nail on the head. 1st, you are spoiled coming off of big hp. But more importantly, you are correct. The power band on these pro's is so wide and so smooth, that they just don't "feel" snappy. Until you line it up against your old sled and run right with it or in front of it. I felt much the same way coming off of a piped ported 800 edge mod. Yet I constantly out climb and out run what it could have done. It just doesn't snap your head back like the mod sled did when you hit the go lever.
