6 Place trailer and Trailblazer

Any one here think its possible to tow a 6 place trailer (with 6 sleds) from MN to Cooke City with a Trailblazer? It does have a 5.3 and 3.73 gears.

Thanks

It'll pull it fine....it's the stopping and cornering that I would worry about on snowy/icy roads.

open or enclosed?

As its been said many many times, can you? probably. Should you - now thats the question.

Definitely possible, but not ideal.

I never towed more than maybe 3k lbs with our TB as it was a gutless POS that had the 4.2 I6, but I did tow about 6k lbs across the country and over a few passes with a 4.8l equipped Chev 1500. Not fun, but doable (both were in summer too). Power wise you'll be fine, suspension/brakes/short wheelbase would be my main concerns, especially if the roads are bad.

It is an open trailer.

I know I would not brake any speed records, but it might be better then the other option. It would be a full sizes Dodge, not sure what size motor. But it is gas, not a diesel.

Seems like you are working with the same powertrain as halftons of that vintage. Halftons, I think most here would agree, would be a bad idea towing a 6place enclosed, mostly because of the side loading from wind. However a open flatdeck trailer shouldn't see nearly as much side loading so maybe you'll get away with it?

This thread got me thinking...
in the mid 90's our group a 4 place open behind a chev 6.2 dsl & a 2 place behind a Jeep GC 5.2.

Well the Chev diesel couldn't keep up so they switched trailers. The Grand Cherokee did fine & the Chev still had a hard time keeping up!
I would imagine by todays standards it would still suck. We just didn't know any better 20 years ago!

If conditions are not ideal I gotta believe this would be a white knuckle tight pucker road trip.

Isn't a trailblazer smaller and lighter than a sub or Tahoe. No way in hell I would want to pull that big of trailer with that light of rig. Put the dodge on it. I would rather run a car and a truck out if the dodge doesn't have enough people room.

In ideal driving conditions I am sure it would pull just fine. Very seldom do we see ideal conditions when we drive 500 miles to the mountains. We usually experience very strong winds, sometimes wind and ice and sometimes Mother Nature throws in snow.

Returned a few weeks ago from Cooke..we drove into town and though the roads getting to Livingston were dry the wind was extreme. Winds were high again in Livingston when we left.

I wouldn't want to be pulling a 6 place open with a trailblazer in those conditions.

Found the specs.(for an '07) shown below on the 'net:

On paper it should handle it but like lots of things in life, paper don't mean $hit. LOL

Under ideal driving conditions, allowing lots of room for safe following & stopping distances, it's do-able. Add poor driving conditions, unfamiliar roads, idiot drivers, & you possibly being in a rush to get there(or back) - Not a good idea.

Once you get west of the Missouri you'll be guaranteed a w-nw wind at 20-25mph. Constant downshifting, 40-50 up the hills, the weight of that trailer tossing you around on some of those roads, I'd choose an old dodge any day if that trailblazer was my vehicle. Your certainly not going to be doing it any favors.

Your nuts, I dont even want to pull a 4 place enclosed with my half ton 06 vortec max out there. With all the wind whipping around I don't feel comfortable without a 3/4 ton.

yeah it can get dangerous with the wind and ice and snow and all the hills pulling a 4 place with a half ton. your plain stupid if you think its a good idea to attempt pulling a 6 place to cooke with a trailblazer. I cant ever imagine pulling a 6 place with anything less then a 3/4 ton pickup let alone with a baby suv that has to big of a motor for its own good. how much is your life and your friends lives worth? use a bigger vehicle!
