6.0L problems solved...

Tuesday-couple things I've found with these, I dont know your how the maintence was on this truck but the fuel filter on the frame seems to get neglected think mainly cause its not as easy as the one up top, i pull these out all the time and they are plugged/full of silt/sand/dirt etc.. Seen alot of pumps just quit and who knows but I think it may be more contamination problems than anything, there is alot of crap in fuel tanks at the pump which ends up in the filter. That may be the cause of the pump failure or elctrically somethin its hard to say, Most of these trucks go through a pump or two in the life of the truck- it is common- any injector failure you should be checking fuel pressure, filters etc.. As for the high pressure pump- there again what was the oil change interval, this system is constantly circulating oil throught the HPOP and injectors so when the oil is run longer than it should, the byproducts of combustion(dirt, soot etc) in the oil run throught the pump and injectors as well.. This is another discussion but my feeling is to change the oil more often on these due to the nature of the fuel system. I dont want to get in a arguement with anyone this is my opinion but I have lots of guys running them 10-15000 miles running synthethic or they put on alot of miles in a short period etc. The dirt in the oil doesnt come from running it with the oil cap off, it comes from what is sucked in the intake and from the buring of the fuel in the cylinder( combustion byproducts) basically why the oil turns black.. so if I run a engine 5000 miles and run a oil sample I have a certain quantity of dirt in the oil whatever it maybe, now if I run my engine 10000 miles I just doubled the dirt and so on. Im not saying synthetic is bad, supposed to have better wear qualities, thermal breakdown etc.. But synthetic oil still gets dirt just like conventional so I still say change it more often oil is cheaper than pumps, injectors, turbos, engines etc. Its even more critcal in my mind on this engine and anything with a HEUI fuel system as the oil is part of the fuel injection system... I recomend to my customers changing it every 5K with normal conventional oil, we carry mobil delvac bulk in the shop. Hard to say without more info but the pump probably failed from dirt contamination- there is a screen under the stock oil cooler which alot of times is plugged or has a hole ripped in it allowing dirt through, the new replacement screens are stainless steel not plastic like the old one.. The oil change thing is my opinion Im sure there are arguements either way... Hope it helps

Alot of vehicles nowdays get the bodies pulled to work on them, was in the chevrolet garage a few months ago and the had a suburban with the body up in the air. Didnt ask what they were doin but it isnt just ford diesels. Just the nature of the beast nowdays they cram everything in there and make it so you cant get to anything with out disassembling half the truck or pullin cabs etc.. Everything is getting more specialized and harder to work on, just keeping up with tooling required is a pain. Makes it impossible for the average guy to work on it in his garage:face-icon-small-sad

pulling a cab takes an hour and saves a huge headache. when i put the motor in my daily driver back together i pulled the cab just because it was easier to put my whole turbo setup on lol. keeps me from yelling and throwing tools lol. not to mention it saves my back.

An hour may be a exaggeration, I could use a guy who could do it in a hour- your hired! More like 3-4 hours...
