considering buying a pro rolling chasis, Can a 550 engine go in one? Goal is to get a better kids sled. also considering the 550 indy in a 144, but thought it might be fun to do a project.

Just use the 550 indy mounting parts... and pipe.

The bulkhead part number is different... but I cant imagine that they changed the casting.

If it were me I'd save the time and money and just buy the indy. The 144 will be fine for a kids weight and easier to learn than longer a longer track. Additionally the indy will already have the fan duct work built in to draw in cold air and expel the hot air. But then again if it were me, I wouldn't put money into a polaris 550F motor. They don't have the best track record.

If you need some setup help for a P85 and P2 I have a killer one. Go for a set of 38 flat slides right away. I have a set up for that also.

I'm not too impressed with the CV Tech on ours. Since it's pretty much a kids sled I may live with it. If I do buy a P 85 I'd be interested in your setup.

Doesn't look like it is an easy project, so maybe I'll just go with a new Indy 550. Can you put a p-85 clutch on the new Indy 550.

The part number for the pto portion of the crank is the same as a 2013 I.Q. 550 that comes with the p-85, so it seems that it would be doable. I also have an I.Q. 550 and if I get serious about it, I may just swap the clutches just to make sure it would work.
We've only got three outings on our 550 Indy but I'm really disappointed in the clutch. It's just not very sensitive to throttle input. It seems to me that the way the clutch is designed there is a lot of internal friction that makes it much less responsive than the P-85. In my research, CV-Tech has a lot of experience with ATV and UTV clutching but I sure couldn't find much help on the net concerning their snowmobile clutching.
