5000 in my pocket, What to BUY

ummmmm - does it snow where you ride?

Oh - and more on topic, I think you are on track with a rev or M7. I ride with a couple M7s and they are great sleds. Ive had good luck with my Revs but some people havent had such luck. Check out your dealers and see who will support you better.

Ya,
It snows 600" a year on average.
An 02 800 RMK 156" (159" if you've added a new track) with slp pipe, port, cut head, team clutch, lightweight seat and hood, will not be beat on the mtn by any of the box stock new iron.
I buy a new sled every year, and put thousands into each and every one of them to get them to mark the old iron in the deep stuff.
Would I want an 02-05 RMK 800, Hell no! But they do climb.

I came off an EDGE RMK, which I really liked

However, the M7 was a blast to ride. Loved it.

Didn't have any problems with my 06.

Now thinkin M8 or Dragon 8.

Just sold my 06 162 with 1500 miles for $5000.

Personally, I think the EDGE RMK is alot easier to throw around then the REV. Maybe not as jump worthy though.

Found this for you.

New 2008 must call. Very low prices all setup no hidden charges. Also 2009 comming soon at low prices!

M8 162 Blk
M1000 153 Blk or Org
M1000 163 Blk or Org
M1000 Sno pro

Used sleds are all in excellent condition. Skis and tracks are in new condition, no bent a-arms, spindles, hoods in good/great condition, regular maintanence and updates done, and never seen dirt or road travel. These were our rentals but last years snow was very forgiving on all of my sleds. All machines have skid plates right out of crate.

2007 M1000 162 $6,200
2008 M8 153 $6,200 1500 miles
2008 M8 162 $6,300 2000 miles
2008 M1 153 $7,800 1000,1600 miles
2008 M1 162 $7,900 1600 miles

If interested in a certain sled I can e-mail pics.

Thanks

I just assumed that a rev was a little more proven.

lol. I'm not trying to start a fight, and I'm sure there are some really good doo's out there but we don't have threads going like these in the Cat section.

http://www.snowest.com/forum/showthread.php?t=88138

The second one has some good mixed in with the bad and the issues seem to be mostly with the 07's but if I were buying used w/o a warrenty I would not be looking at a doo 800. I like the REV's a lot, I think they look sweet and I like the way they handle after you get used to it but I hate getting towed to the truck. The M7 has proven to be a reliable sled, that handles great, and has tons of mod possibilitys. Out of the box, the doo will beat it, in the long run....it will probably tow the doo home. Good luck with what ever you figure out.

Put a set of fox zero pros set up by Carls under your sled and then ride it like you don't care! Seriously though, if you can't afford to get what you really want, which is more like $10,000, I'd spend a few hundred on the sled you've got which really is a great sled rather than buy someone else's problem sled they are dumping. Just my thoughts. Guy's give me a hard time too for riding old iron, but you know what, The edge's still rock, and are rock solid.

5K

Just wait another week or so & you can buy a house in Phoenix for that kind of cash. lol

very hard to beat an 06 Rev Summit....was definitely the best year, with the least issues...

M7's are very good sleds, lots of people ride them...but they are a little light in the power stage...

I have had both and now ride an 06 rev. I completely agree with the M7 being light on power. It handles great but not near as much power as the Rev.

Both are good sleds though.

Are M8's significantly more expensive than the m7? Why not go for the M8? What kind of power to weight do they have compared to a 06 rev?

thanks again, I am drulling over your comments.

The M8 will probably run closer with the REV but you said your price range was $5000. An M7 due to being 05 and 06 models are in that price range. If you find an M8 for 5K buy it, but make sure its not stolen. I'll bet if you wait a year or so you will start seeing M8's for 5K, right now low 6000's seem to be the norm.

Is an 06 rev beter than an 07?

I know I will want the power and I rode a full mod, heads and all 700 RMK that was freaking insane but I would not change back to that for power.

I love my 800 but feel that I am limited to not being rider forward.

Does the 06 rev have more power stock than my 800 with reeds, intake, and full slp exhaust?

Thanks again, I am almost convinced that my 800 is worth keeping.

What if I blow a crank? I dont want to try and squeeze more out of it than I already am.

Thanks again,

Keep up the options.

If you like the looks and feel of the REV's (Like I do) you might end up kicking yourself in the azz if you go with the M7. Just my own experience when I settle for something that I didn't originally want.
The 06 REV was a very reliable sled, So is my 05 but I had to replace the stock rings because the DOO rings flaked prior to 06.

I have never ridden the M7 so I can't compare the two but it sounds like a lot of folks like it but feel the low end power is lacking.
That's exactly where you need power when playing in the trees or boondocking. ???

You might even find an 05 REV for a lot less and do the ring change for an awesome sled.

07's had some clutching issues but there is a fix for that too but I doubt you'll find an 08 for @ $5000.

Put your location on your information on the right hand corner of your posts so folks can recommend places for you to look for a sled.
For instance...If I knew you lived any where near Washington State I would recommend going to the Snow Show in a couple weeks to look for your new sled. There will be HUNDREDS of sleds for sale by their owners and all are trying to undercut the guy next to them to sell them.

I'd go with the 06 Rev. If you go to the M7, while it's a real nice sled, and handles great. Coming off what your on now, it would feel way underpowered. The 06 Rev had very few issues, and was a great all around sled. Did everything very good, and would have about the same power that your used to. Just allot better in the deep stuff IMO! I switched from the Edge chasis to the Rev, and got used to it within a day. You won't regret it.

i have an extremely clean 05 M7 with slp pipe can and vforce reeds and 153 camoplast track
$5000 firm

thanks paul

SLP never made a single pipe for the M7... ;) Just messin... Sounds like a decent price though.

Anyway - if you don't want to give up the power of your VE and you want something more jump-able i'd probably go with the 06 REV - they are great sleds no question. I personally can't stand the riding position which is why i never bought one. I might have bought an XP had they had better reliability, but decided to stay with Cat because they've always been built-proof sleds even when modded. The M-chassis is still my favorite for all around riding and climbing and even jumping. The M7 is a great sled, but i think you'll be bummed with its power - which fine when your WOT, but bottom end is just not that great.

As for keeping your sled - don't do it. The new sleds might not climb any higher in a straight line, but they are ten times more fun at everything else and will still put mark on hill as high as you want to go.

5000 in a CD with some good rates would be my vote ;) Your sled is still fine

I wont be able to stand less overall power. There is one thing that I thrive on and thats inching out ahead of all my buddies on the way up. I can see them cursing in there helmets and looking down to see whats wrong with ther sleds. I will keep looking for the best sled but if a 2006 summit x 151 comes along and I have sold my 02 I am going to get it.

Does the 151 rev track have more float then my 151 poo track? If the 144 rev track has as much float as my 151 I wouldnt mind having the extra track speed.

I really do want to ride all of these sleds to choose the best but being a compulsive buyer will probably limit me:D
