5000 in my pocket, What to BUY

I am selling my 02 RMK 800 151 Full SLP sled for something better. I want to stay around 5000 for the new ride.

Main reason for upgrade is that I want more versatility in the mountains with jumps, drops, and traversing up hill.

I figure the REV is the most likely option, but they have different issues year to year that I am not familiar with.

Please help me.

very hard to beat an 06 Rev Summit....was definitely the best year, with the least issues...

M7's are very good sleds, lots of people ride them...but they are a little light in the power stage...

what year M7 and why is it better than a REV 800?

the m7 was only made in 05 and 06 basically the same both years. the biggest factor IMO why the m7 is better than the rev is the reliability, the m7 is pretty much bullet proof from what ive seen, where as the 800 doo has not had as good of reputation over the past few years. the doo will feel better power wise but both are rated around the same power unless you buy one of the most recent year revs. the m7 just lacks the bottom end punch. in the pow and boondockin most people say you cant beat the m chassis but for all around riding the rev may handle better. i would say if your looking for a sled, if you can go out and try a bunch of different ones and see which one suits you the best.:beer;

Have you thought about freshening up the sled you are on and hanging on to it for a couple more seasons. I ride with a couple guys running well tuned VE's, they still give all the new stuff fits. I don't think we've seen enough of a performance gain in the last several years to warrant a change. Some of the more well known hillclimbers are still very competitive on VE's.

i ride a lot of sleds and would say that for your 5k, an m-7 will give you better reliability, off-trail enjoyment, and ability to stick with some of the new, stronger engine 800s in the deep...no sled is perfect, each has its' good/bad points, but imo it's tough to beat the overall package of the m-7 in that price range

As much as I hate to say it.
The 02 VE with an SLP pipe/porting/team clutch is still the bench mark for deep powder climbing.
It has no problem handling an xp, m1k, m8, in fact the only sled that I ever saw as a definite deep powder outclimber was the cat 900 ported/piped and 16 wide. Your riding a dated chassis (same with the cat 9) but thats the only downside to it.

m7... awsome chassis sorta low on power but plenty good
06 rev summit 800 best year for the oler rev
06 900 cheap for what you get but you need to put $1500-2000 in it to make it as reliable as the first two.

Fully insure your 800. Ride it nice until 2010 then go balls out and do stuff you want to do with your new sled.

Now am I saying go out and deliberately damage your sled ???? Absolutely not but I am saying insure do what you want and if nothing happens you are out $300 insurance.

Lots of riders get the 0% financing on the Arctic Cats and they go on sell right around Feb thru April.

id go m7 or an m8 if you can find one for $5000. if you have ur heart set on a rev id do a ride on it cuz there really weird to get used to if you even can get used to it. just my opinion

WOW, Thanks for all the input. I really dont mind my sled but the crank worries me. It has a full SLP setup with reeds, intake, and exhuast. It climbs really well but I cant jump it because it cases out really bad and its pretty hard to turn really sharp. I would love to have more power, easier turning, and better jumping abilities.

I was surprised to hear so many votes for the M7 and M8's. I just assumed that a rev was a little more proven. Has anyone ridden an 06 rev and found it comfortable?

I think its mainly the newer style chassis that I am after anyway. I am looking to improve my ridding abilites (with a new chassis to help) not just mod out the edge and hill climb the crap out it.

Keep it up Im not totally convinced.

Thanks

ummmmm - does it snow where you ride?

Oh - and more on topic, I think you are on track with a rev or M7. I ride with a couple M7s and they are great sleds. Ive had good luck with my Revs but some people havent had such luck. Check out your dealers and see who will support you better.
