4-2-2011 how was RE today.

Im gonna switch mine over to avgas this weekend. Im curious to see how the 6 hundo runs with the M8

Also curious to see if the avgas's higher vapor pressure actually relates to loss of throttle response in my application.

One thing I noticed with the AV gas is that I haven't fouled a plug since I started using it instead of a 50/50 RG mix.

What level of boost / mix of fuel are you running?

I was running straight 100 LL @ 12 psi primarily because I was getting the 100 LL for $4.52/gallon ..

There is truth to the rumor that the straight AV gas sucks on the bottom end ... going back to 91 last weekend made a pretty big difference in throttle response ...

Av is a colder burning fuel, The stock plugs in a Poo Pro are BPR9E's which is a cold plug, You might have to run a hotter plug to get better combustion on the bottom end. Something like a BPR7E's, Yes NGK heat range is backwards.

Stock cat 800 plug is an NGK BPR9EYA ... I'm kind of leary about running a hotter plug, don't really wanna burn a hole in the piston :)

So go with the hottest BR9 plugs or the coolest BR8s. But the you mess with the gap ratio, I believe. I may go with a BR9EYA for mine instead on the BR9ECS

You'll be fine going one step hotter then stock, Any BPR9 plug is the same heat range! Regardless of EYA or ES series. PJ your also correct with plug gap, but that would be on the top end not the bottom. If your gap is to big, the positive pressure (boost) would blow the spark out.

Remember DET is from Pre Ignition, if your running a colder fuel like Av, it takes more heat and spark to ignite it, unlike pump gas, which is why your having better luck on the throttle response.

I'm new to the 100LL thing, I've never heard about the lousy bottom end. Mine was a combo of too much weight, too low of an engagement, and added fuel, but the bottom end definitely sucked. I was running pretty much all 100LL

Yeah, you won't have to worry about DET with 100ll. With all of the sleds going down this season to DET, I'll sacrifice a little throttle response. Or one can always toss in 8oz of tolulene and then the response will pick up a bit.

I am reading this and I can't make up my mind if you guys are speaking ENGLISH or some other twisted type turbo language...I need to study up I guess:face-icon-small-con:face-icon-small-con

Looks like I will be riding N/A for a long time because I don't understand either. And why would you need to study up? You going to turbo that pro???

Lesson #1:

DET is detonation, abbreviated. DET is bad, bad, bad! It can be heard, the sound is called "pinging". It sounds like well, pinging. The new sleds have a sensor that detects this and automaticall retards the timing to halt the detonation. But, it is not fool proof. My sled went down this year because of DET (brought on by bad fuels, mostly), a little lean condition. Kristy Martin's sled just went down due to DET. There have been a lot of sleds going down because of this. DET means that the fuel is igniting before it is supposed to. If you take an engine apart that has fallen victim to DET, it looks like a kid started banging away on the piston crowns and the domes on the head with a center punch. Most often it creates a ring failure and then that compounds into seizure, scoring and ultimately brings on a new short block. Higher octane fuels reduce DET. Also having the correct "fuel map" or in my case jetting also stops DET. With today's ethanol treated fuel, DET is becoming more common. Hence the need for higher octane, race fuel mixtures or running better fuels.

So, moving on. 100ll is one-hundred low-lead, more commonly known as AVGAS or aviation fuel. We choose to run this in the boosted sleds because it's a great and more cost effective way to prevent DET. It is a cooler burning fuel so Detonation is rare. Also, at 4.70/gallon, now 5.00/gallon it is the best way to get good fuel for turbos or higher compression sled motors. It is cheaper than buying 91 and then mixing in some 110 race fuel which is nearing the 8.00/gallon mark.

I hope this helps you two. I am in no means an expert in this but I am beginning to understand it. You want to know the ins and outs, call Erik at VOHK, but be prepared to listen for over an hour, he will explain everything.

That's a good start...but if you could just help me out with one more thing I think I could join the band wagon...

Where does a guy like myself whore himself out to in order to obtain enough money to pay for one of these sleds that must run this special 100ll fuel?

Does Kremmling have enough high paying customers? Denver possibly? I just don't understand...

You gots coin, don't deny it.

100 Lk is about half the price of race gas ryan in you are running 12 psi or less its the way to go for sure....$4.52 a gallon isn't a bank breaker
