338 remington ultra mag

Is this an ok gun. Are they issues with barrel life, someone told me there is.Or is there a different manufacturer that makes a better model.

depends on how fast your bullets are coming out of the tube. They are good accurate rifle but they shoot way too fast.
Rule of thumb for me is for use on any animal a heavier bullet under 3000 fps.
I myself use a .338 Win mag

I run the .338 ultra and love it. Very nice for hammering critters at long range. Have taken 7 different animals at +450 yrds!!! Even saved my life once with a Grizz at 18 ft. Use the 225 gr noslers and you cant go wrong. Bullet drops a bout 10 inches at 400 yds. I use H1000 for powder at 97grains. Had the gun since 01' and have put alot of rounds thru it. I loved this gun so much I even bought the 300 ultra in the same gun. Remington 700 stainless with the smoked laminate stock in left hand. Ther are many better cartrages out there but for purchasing factory ammo this 1 tops em all. Kick is a lil hectic at the range but in the field U dont even notice. Heres a pic of a elk and a grizz from 2005. Got em both within 1hr of each other 200yrds apart. Both with 225 noslers. The bear was hit in the front end and I pulled the bullet out of his a$$. I think that is good enough!! You can see the stock and the ammo in the gun scabbord........

what does a round cost to load. i think box of shells are about $70. when i bought the gun 8 years ago i also got 5 boxs of ammo. and still have 3 left. i just looked 34.99 for a box 200 grain noslers 8yrs ago
