300 KTM will it work?

Nice to see a few 300s out there. What model are you guys running and what settings? I've only had one ride in so far, so this info will be changing. Weather was in the 40's

Here is my current setup:
'07 300 XCW
'13 121 MH kit
Elevation 2,500-5k

35 IJ, JD blue needle on 4th clip, 175MJ. Seemed to run great, but I'm no jetting expert. I was able to lug a lot more than expected.

Power valve spring: unknown. Just got the bike, and added kit/jetting

Gearing: 12t front sprocket as recommended. 3rd gear works great everywhere. Even did some 4th for higher speed deep snow. I may try the 13t again after some power mods. With the 10" ski, it would be nice to get more top end speed on the trail. GPS claimed top speed was 41mph, but I wasn't trying to wind it out. KTM carb heater will be on order.

I was told by a very reputable source to run the 13/16 tooth setup. Seemed to work really well but I have the SX head mod and ignition. Haven't messed with me jetting yet, seems ok.

What is the lowest weight oil I should consider for my tranny? I am thinking a full synthetic 5w40 for winter deep snow use only. Thoughts?

A 175 main seems really rich. I run a 160 or 162 in my 300.

I know several people, myself included that run Shell Rotella T6 5W-40 synthetic. Has the JASO MA rating for wet clutches.

I run this in my KX450 and change the oil every weekend. Great oil and a great price when you buy in bulk.

Done. And the best part is that I can also use it in my F350 oil burner. In fact, I might even have some in the back of the truck.... :D

The KTM Carb heater works very well. I would also recommend a "carb jacket". Make from neoprene or Gortex etc. Velcro edges to close it up. That combination works perfectly. Good luck! I am seriously considering a second bike, short track technical tree bike, and starter bike for my son. :) A 300 XC with a 121. I discussed the differences between the XC and XCW with a KTM rep. He said the XC has higher compression and more aggressive porting. More of a race set up. I saw the dyno chart and it cranks out 50.6 hp. I think 50 horse on that little/lite bike would be too much fun. Should keep right with the average 450 / 4 strokers. Any body have seat time on the XC model? Love to hear from you.

It has a new fatty and a new Q silencer on it now. I'd like to get the head cut, maybe a gnarly, SX ignition, and eventually a cast 38mm smartcarb. Ideally I would have loved a '08+ 300 XC with the happy button. Hopefully next week I'l try toning down the MJ. I'll check out the spring. Very curious to play with those.

You also mentioned using the 13/16 setup. What is the stock sprocket on the MH kit? Is this what you are using on a XCW or XC? Thanks.

Not sure what stock is on a TS. I bought my kit used and the 16 was already on the kit. Also, the 13 was already in my 300 so was good that I didn't need to do anything to either. Just bolt up and ride!

Send your cylinder to MikeS at Cycle Playground. Get a SXS head cut and add a Smartcarb. Best money you will spend and it will eat a XC lol. The big difference in the XC is the closed cartridge forks. The 300 is the best single track weapon ! Not sure how the snowbike works. Seems a little underpowered just like the 450's imo.

Here is a video i took about 3 weeks ago. It was my first time riding a snowbike. Its my buddies KTM 300. It has the high comp head on it and a different can. It worked awesome. We rode with another guy that had a KTM 450 and he also liked the 300. He said was way easier to ride in the tight trees as it felt a lot lighter. This had a new Timbersled 121 on it. I had an absolute blast and am considering getting one. I have been riding sleds for 30 years and this was more fun than id ever had in the mountains.

Great video. What year kit was it? Did it have the new 10" ski? I love the new Six Days graphics too but they don't make them for my '09.

Also an update on my clutch issue - once I put Rotella T6 full syn 5w40 in there I no longer have the stalling/lurching issue when I put the bike in gear. So looks like problem solved. Can't wait to get the Rekluse put in now! :)

Seems like the 300 works better than I thought it would ! Get some footy in 3 feet of fresh if you can ! Nice !

The kit is a 2013. The bike is a 2012. He didnt have the wide ski yet as it was backordered but he has it now. I watched them hit some deep powder in the trees and you had to have a run at it but both bikes seemed to go about the same in the deep. They were out again this weekend but the guy with the 450 KTM blew one of the bearings in the chain case so they didnt get far at all.
