3 year olds first ride

Decided to take my 3 old daughter on here first real ride and since it was a tuning day and I didn't have much hope for the 680, i didn't have much in the expectation catagory. She's definately a motor head as she likes to help wrench on **** but the real test was Sunday. Found out she's a rider and the 680 now runs, just took the right person to wave the magic wand I guess. Each time I stopped to check on her, her smile was larger than I've ever seen. The fun part was she was falling asleep on the way back down the hill so now I know I'll need to start the ride a little earlier next time.

Great to see the family getting involved at an early age. . . and with appropriate helmut.

Comments to consider:
Looks like you are at the tower on Kachess ridge. I have been there many, many times. One day I was riding solo, near the tower, and hit a hole and my whole body shifted forward to the handlebars very quickly/forcibly . . . . My thought was: I was very happy my grandson was not in front of me that day, as I would have hurt him. Please, please be very careful.

Check her hands frequently. Carry those packaged handwarmers.

Ride conservatively when with child! My grandson didn't know to duck when we went under trees. Things that seem automatic to you are not automatic to the kids.

Awesome to see someone else introducing their kids early as well. This was the first year that we took our kids (2-1/2 & 4). They absolutely love it. Just like your daughter, they have a hard time staying awake on the way back, something about fresh air and the soothing sound of a 2-stroke.

That's cool! I remember those days with my son, we logged a lot of miles just like that, riding in front holding on to the bars. He's now 13 and rides with me all the time on his own sled. It pays to start them early, he rides better than a lot of people twice his age. Keep it up!

That's a great way to get them started and spend time with your family. Good advice from Papa Bear, good weather days make all the difference.
I sure remember the falling asleep part, nothing like holding a sack of potatoes in one arm and manning the controls with the other. All three of my kids started as passengers on my lap and have moved on to there own rides, the youngest 5 is riding meadows and open spaces for now but it wont be long before he's hot on my tail.

The nice part of all this is knowing that I will always have my little buddies to ride with even when I'm old & gray.

If you cant tell I'm a proud papa too.
A couple pics of my 8 year old little boon docker, I think he rides better than most adults.

This is a great thread, good stuff! One of the most enjoyable things for me as a father this year has been watching my 3 year old ride his sled by himself over a dozen times now and has still not hit anything! It's so fun to teach the kids and realize how different they all are, some really get it and some don't....we just all need to be responsible however let 'em be kids! Great stuff, here's a pic of his first ride at the cabin!

Very cool.

My kids have been riding with mom and dad since they were about a year old. We had a harness that held them in front of us while riding. Now they are 6 and 10 yrs old and each ride there own sleds. We've had some great rides as a family and in my book, that's what it is all about.

Here are a couple pics from Christmas day on their Christmas present, a 1978 Kitty Cat...Love watching them ride it, especially when my boy (2-1/2) decides that he needs to to a little pruning on our shrubs with the track as he rides over them.

That's awesome! I have a 4 and a 2 year old. I hadn't really considered taking either of them on the sled, may have to try it. Wife might disagree though :face-icon-small-dis

My 3yo daughter will ride my sled all day long... when it's sittin in garage!

Where do you get kid's helmets? The cycle shop?
Do you guys recommend putting earplugs in the kids' ears?

hey

I took my 3 year old on his first ride on daddy's vroom vroom, and he loved it. He fell asleep a few times, and hits throttle and trys to start it when we stop.

start em young and it's full blown Motorheads later in life

I also started all my kids riding at 3. They loved it, dirt bikes , sleds and quads. Got to start them youg, the only down side is it cost you plenty as they get older. They know newer means better !! But the better the sled, the easier for them to keep up with the gang.!

We ended up going with ski/snowboard style helmets, they gave much better protection than bicycle helmets, but not as heavy and bulky as MX style helmets. We were worried about the MX helmets hurting their necks if the trails were bumpy, bobble head affect. We got them from the local ski shop over here in E-burg. Had not thought about the earplugs, that is definitely not a bad idea.

We saw a kid riding a Polaris 340 lite 2 years ago at age 6, maybe "THEDICK'S". That kid was soo good that I thought he must have been a "little person" until he took his Hemet off and said "dad!".

I'm hoping to get my daughter out by age 3, want to make sure she has a good helmet first.

That is way to cool!!

Way to go--family time with memories they do not forget.

I found it worked real well to keep my boys out of trouble in their teen years...I am old and grey and the oldest boy is close to catching up to anything I can pull off and the younger one is getting better each ride!!
