2200 mile 800 pistons

I bought into the CFI2 paranoia a little bit and decided to put a fix kit in my 13 Pro. The pistons look pretty good to me. Clearance was 0.006", so just outside of spec. There was a little bit of flaking on the upper ring, just on the intake side. During the first season I ran a 13.6 PAR head for a few hundred miles and experienced several det events. Crosshatch still good and no scratches or scuffs. Oil is Shell synthetic.

look at the cylinder lower skirts for cracks. this was a problem with the 08-12 but why you have the jug off give it a close look. the pistons don't look to bad for the miles.

OMG, you didn't rebuild it every 1000 miles, you sir are insane;) No drop in kit, no fix it kit, can this be possible???

Polaris addressed this, the 13 and up 800's have thicker skirts and pistons that come from the factory with a reasonable fit. Not slapping around. My skirts looked fine. I'm sure it would have gone much longer with no issue.

The MTNTK Wiseco's were 0.0045 clearance. Right on spec.

JMCX, from the pics and specs, what you're doing is working. Pistons are what we should expect from all CFI2s with 2200 miles on it. Back when I did my 11 with 1700 clearance on the OEMs were 0.006 and 0.007 at the bottom of the cylinders, tighter at mid and top. Always warmed it up well, too.

FWIW, did you turn up oil deliver/where is the pump set on the notch, and routinely add any oil to the fuel?

Always warming the engine before riding is a given. However, if I'm loading at home or transferring truck to truck I won't warm the engine at all. Oiler has been turned up from day one, about 40:1. Never looked at the pointer. Not oil added to tank beyond the first.

This sled got somewhat of a breakin for 50 miles because of the QD belt. Usually I do nothing special.
