My sled won't stay running- it will run sometimes for about 15 seconds, and die when I go to move it, but it usually will only run for a few seconds and then die.
The way it started was, I was heading up the mountain on the trail, and the sled did a pretty wicked DET. I had to shut it down, then fired it back up, and it ran fine. Then, once I got to the top, it started running bad- almost like running on once cylinder. I changed spark plugs, no improvement. I thought maybe it was a bad coil, and started heading back down to the trailer. Partway down, it started running good, so I turned around and headed back up and rode for the day. The sled ran great that day. Then at the end of the day, on the trail, it started running bad again. It was really bad at lower RPM, but if I held the throttle open, it would pick up and go after a few seconds. As I kept going down, it got worse and worse, I couldn't get to the top end anymore, and could hardly get enough RPM to engage the clutch. Finally it died altogether. We pulled it down to the trailer, and I put more fuel in (was at 30% full). It fired up, but when I went to put it in the trailer, it died. It would never run for more than 15 or 20 seconds since then. It usually dies in only a few seconds, but sometimes (usually when cold), it will run for 15 seconds or so. It will not rev up at all. It has never shown a check engine light. No codes in the display.
So far, I've changed/ checked:
- Flashed back to stock (had bikeman tune)
- Compression test was 122 on each side
- No tight spots when turning clutch over slowly with spark plugs out
- put in new auxiliary injectors
- checked fuel pressure with gauge (was 61 PSI, installed new socks anyway), no sign of any water in the gas (100LL AVGAS)
- disconnected killswitch
- disconnected tether
- disconnected reverse switch
- plugged in TSS bypass
- inspected reeds (they are perfect)
- had the dealer check for pending codes (showed low voltage to ecu and some other voltage related codes, waiting for dealer to give them to me)
After that, it looked like a voltage issue, so we:
- traded PBR with my NA 850 (it ran longer when we did this, but died when we went to move it)
- tested stator
The stator tested good, except for back probing the yellow output wires. They are supposed to read 24V AC at 1300 RPM. Mine only read 4V. So it must be the stator, right? So i pulled the stator out, it looks totally good. THEN I tested the output of the NA sled, and it only tests 2.8V AC (spec in the manual is the same, 24V). The NA sled runs great. AND, on the new version of the service manual, they no longer have the stator output test, so it seems like they don't even want it done any more.
So I'm at a loss. Any ideas?
