As I have done in years past, I will try my best to keep this snow report updated. Since last season the road at (porcupine) Greys River slide has been repaired and I believe efforts are being made to fix the Blind Bull road. I will try to get an update on that. Besides some light dustings up top, no real major snow has happened yet. Lets hope for a good stable snowpack this year!!

We received the first decent snowfall of the season over the weekend. We picked up a couple of wet inches here at the cabins. The ski resorts and snotel sites are all showing between 11-14" of new snow. Predictions are for cool and winter like weather this next week.

We received a wet 2-3" here at the cabins overnight. Snotel sites show around 5 inches new over 8000 feet. Most of the sites we ride are all sitting between 25-30" and have good water content. Jackson Hole Ski Resort picked up 5" last night and Targhee Resort received 9". They are advertising the best snowpack in the west with a 54" base. More snow expected tomorrow.

Your Welcome!
December 1, 2018 Alpine, WY Snow Report
Most Years you can ride a sled from town up the Greys or McCoy typically by December 10th. Just a date I have noticed over the years and seems to be true. You could easily get around the Valley and ride forest roads with no problem. This year I think we are looking great and are a few weeks ahead of schedule. The box Y is showing 26" at the lodge. The ski resorts and the Willow Creek snotel both picked up another foot last night. The Star valley area picked up about 4-8" in the last few days, depending on location. I was hunting yesterday about 500-1000 feet above the valley floor and got into 2-3' of snow in the north facing treed slopes.

Thanks for the video. Please anyone in the area post your experiences. I received two reports over the weekend, both on the Salt River Range, Cottonwood by Afton, and Willow Creek by Bedford. Both reports are 5-6 feet up high, but very little base has formed yet.

We received another good shot of valley snow over night and through the morning. Looks to be about 6-8" depending where you are at. Another small storm predicted for Friday night. Looking like a good conditions going into the holidays.

Any word on when the contractor working on the slide project will be done and put the snow back on Grey's road?

In the last few days the local resorts received 14" and the Alpine area 4-5". I saw a haul truck leaving the Greys River road a few days ago and got a report that the trail is now fine. I will update if I hear different.

The trail is good. We went thru there yesterday. You might hit a few small rocks with your skis, right at the slide area, but the whole trail is groomed well.

The snow is good, especially in the trees, but not a lot of base. Lost count of how many trees I got hung up on and rocks I hit, but we explore a lot off the beaten path. Great snow for this time of year.

Yesterday/Last Night's Storm put down about 10" of new snow here at the cabins. SNOTEL sites look to have received a similar amount, all sitting around 40". In all, conditions are looking pretty good for this time of the year.

This last 24 hours has left us somewhere between 8-12" of snow on the Valley floor depending where you measure. The storm is moving out and the wind is really picking up. Jackson Hole Ski Resort is reporting 13" in the last 24. Most snotel sites are not registering very well, but appear to be about the same.

Rockin M Pictures

Just thought I would post a few pictures that I took yesterday around the Rockin' M Cabins. I took a measurement. We are at about 24" in the flat areas around the cabins. I have taken several calls in the last few weeks that people have seemed a bit shocked when I tell them that we have good snow. This winter has been a bit different than the past few. The storms have been cooler and mostly been dropping down from the Northwest. The past few years have been warm pacific storms that were really dumping up high but the lower elevations often got rain or a rain snow mix, leaving us with poor lower elevation riding. In general the snotel sites are not reflecting a huge snowpack up high this season like we had in the last few years, yet there is still plenty of snow to be had. In all the snowpack is more consistent this year from 5800 (elevation of the cabins) to 10,000. The downside is that many places the snow is still not based up very well. A few warmer days would help firm things up a bit. In all, our cabin guests have been leaving satisfied with the riding conditions, especially compared to other areas in the west.
