2017 Arctic Cat SVX 450

Be interesting to see what kind of warrantee they attach to this thing, I don't think there is a single race bike company out there that offers warrantee's...

As mentioned in the sled thread, Arctic Cat's marketing team should be fired!

What a joke, no price, no info, nothing but a pic and a vid!

If they're as good as getting folks Sherco parts, as they are at marketing, this will be a huge success!

Meanwhile, overheard at Arctic Cat development headquarters....

"Hey, let's make a snowbike kit to compete with the market!"
"Great idea! Let's see if we can get Camso to help us with the track!"
"Nice thinking buddy. And while we are at it, let's pair it with a Euro bike that doesn't have much market share in the US!"
"Awesome mate! And while we are at it, let's keep the tires and swing arm and sell it as an all-in-one unit so they can't use it in the summer!"
"Brilliant! Free Little Ceaser's Pizza for everyone today!"

A 2016 Sherco 450 is $9600. So say knock off $1000 for wheels, tires, brakes, swing arm and shock.

They just came out with the snowbike kit so the price will be higher, say $7000.

I think the price will be around $16,000.

Meh, it's good for the consumers in the snowbike world, just in that more competition will ultimately make it a bit more affordable, maybe.
I fail to see the advantage of a single rail rear skid except maybe on the trails. Gimmick, IMO since there's already 4 legit kit companies with a traditional rear skid.
Better be cheaper than buying a new bike and a kit, or it will be a failure with most people I know who are die hard mtn riders (don't see too many first timers or flat landers springing for a snowbike), especially if it doesn't cater to the dual purpose crowd, ie: come with the wheels and swingarm.
If it does take off for Cat, I feel sorry for the fledgling companies that started this sport, especially the new guys that just came to market in the last year or so, because they will not be able to compete.
I used to be a pretty die hard ditch pickle rider but I don't see this as a great move by Cat.
Heck, at least use a Yami or Suzuki since they have the relationship there and better parts/service availability. Not to mention, Yamaha seems to be one of, if not the preferred, brands to run as a sno bike.....
I mean there's already green Yamahas and Blue Cats running around all over the place. Can't imagine Yamaha told them to FO on this?

I do not understand how Some of you are saying it is going to be terrible when no one has said anything about riding one or price point. I say good for Cat. If they want to be in the market I guess this is how they wanted to be in it. Parts wise, I doubt you would have to go through sherco to get parts since they are calling the whole package an Arctic Cat and not a Sherco 450 with Arctic Cat suspension...I think we should sit back and see what happens for the rest of the winter and see what people think who have rode it.

They said at the dealer show that this was just a glimpse of what was coming I the fall. Very pre-production. I really liked the look not the ski. Noe do sure on the rest track kit, it looks quite heavy. It had a cut down and spliced powerclaw on it. it'll be interesting to see what they do for a production track, I think a full on powerclaw would be killer. I heard rumors of pricing I the $11000 range. They said full release would be on the fall with an order period at that time and limited builds the first year.

I wonder how the math will end up.

If you buy this purpose built machine and it doesn't come with wheels, swingarm, etc, and you want to convert it to a dirt bike in summer, you will need to buy all that stuff. How much will that cost and then, what do you end up with compared to buying a very good existing dirt bike and doing a snowbike conversion?

I believe it is possible to upgrade bikes now and just buy a new adapter kit if you want to run the same snowbike kit on another bike.

I'm pretty sure the target market for this bike won't be buying it to try to convert it back to a dirt bike for summer riding.

Just a thought: Polaris now owns Timbersled and has partnered up with KTM in the past. Will AC coming to the table with this push Polaris to work out a purpose build with KTM/Timbersled base?

We can all only hope that happens. As far as AC pricing, I would say $9600 for Sherco, -$1000 for dirt gear, then take 30% markup off (which is probably low for a margin but just a ballpark idea), so you're at $6020. Say the kit is $5000, take 30% off, and you're at $3500. Add the two together for $9520 and put the 30% markup back and you're at $12,375.

That's my guess.

Apparently you guys have never bought dirt bike parts....you cannot get wheels, tires, brakes, swingarm, and a shock for $1,000!

Current KTM retail Prices for a 450XCF....
Wheels: $600ea=$1200
Tires: $65ea=$130
Brakes: $340 front, $450 rear=$790
Swingarm: $700
Shock: $1375

Total=$4195

Obviously the spare parts prices are higher than the assembly line prices but not by 75%!

I mean you consider mountain bikes sell for over 6k and it is pretty much a frame shocks and wheels with brakes. They should be able to sell this thing at a very appealing price point if you are wanting to go snow only.
