2015 T3 production changes

For those that are NOT upset about this. Would you be upset if BRP decided to switch back to the 2.5" track instead of the 3" that was clearly advertised as was the light weight muffler? Ya I thought so....

Umm yes, but a track is a little different then a can!!!

Yea, well I'm old enough to remember a hand shake and your word meaning something.

Most of us here think Ski-doo builds a good sled, or we wouldn't have snow checked.

The point of being mad about the can and track, isn't about the few hundred dollars, it's about trying to hold Ski-doo to higher standard.

We want to do business with true word and a solid hand shake company. Not a read the fineprint company!

I've always like Skidoo sleds but all this whining about a disposable item (canister) is a bit bizarre... Some of you guys would have flipped out had you had to deal with early model TRA or the HAC...some guys were trying to sue BRP . LOL

I thought the new can looked bad anyways. Slp, hps, and diamond s all have lighter and nicer looking options. And putting holes in a track is easy to do and not everyone wants them anyways.

Well in the letter Skidoo mailed out, that I just got in the mail today. Which by the way they DID NOT HAVE TO MAIL, said they will weigh the same or lighter than advertised.

And the track lost 2 rows of slots to keep the rear wheels from pushing through the holes and breaking the track.

Yeah, I received the letter too. No, I’m not a young pup and yes, I am annoyed. Intentional or not, those items served as additional bait to reel in more buyers. BRP touted those items, in their snow check literature and subsequently pulled them off the table, in the 11th hour. Apparently the BRP marketing arm was well ahead of R&D. Do I want junk on my new sled? Obviously not. BRP should not have marketed these features, before they were fully vetted. I wonder if there’s a second letter in the works? :face-icon-small-sho

Why doo they build proto-types? To test out the materials and the technology. If changes are deemed necessary by the engineers when the proto-types come back in, so be it!

Sure wished they had tested the 08 driveshafts and I wouldn't have had to replace 2 of them. If the ported track was deemed a problem and the engineers felt they wouldn't stand the rigors of riding with the length of the warranty, then I am glad they changed it.

As for the muffler, the EPA is a little higher on the totem pole than BRP so it is what it is.

It's not only the can, but the pipe as well, the pipe was not the same as the other exhaust.

As far as the track porting that's minor IMO. Pipe and can well that's a different story. And I'm curious how the sled is still the same weight.

If Polaris can meet EPA with there lightweight can how come doo can't? The T3 prototype exhaust was a step forward IMO.

Ski-doo probably found out it will cost them more money than projected for new manufacturing................(head BRP guy talking)so hey lets just throw on our old can and pipe and save us the hard work and profit loss. Those dummies that sno-checked the T3 will take them anyway!

P.S I sno-checked one

I rode the T3 in McCall last Spring. Even if Doo had added a few pounds to this sled it would make no difference in the advantage this monster already has on the rest of the OEMs! Not to mention its capability among highly modified sleds. If DOO is accurate about the targeted weight savings and the sled performs as good as the proto-type then this muffler weight drama is pointless. I would bet that many would still install an after market can on the sled even if it had come with a OEM light weight can just to shed a few more pounds. And it is probably a good thing that DOO did not port the track. DOO does not have a good reputation for designing tracks. I would rather port my own track and control that myself. I also question the people on here accusing DOO of being dishonest. We signed an agreement that gives DOO the right to make changes as needed. It appears to be hypocritical to put the blame on DOO. We agreed to the possibility that modifications could happen. These changes are minor in the overall design and build of this sled and the overall weight is better than expected. I ordered the T3 and what I see in the letter does not concern me right now. If the sled I ride this winter does not run like the one I rode in the spring then DOO will be held accountable. DOO did an incredible job designing this sled.:target:

Don't components like these cans go into production prior to the assembly of the sleds? It's not like they have a couple of guys fabricating a half a dozen of them per day. They have to produce and set up machinery well prior to when they need them to be installed on the production line. It just seems like the timing is questionable.

You would think but....... the muffler on the prototype that I rode last spring was a non-production muffler that was poorly fitted together. The bottom caps on the muffler were riveted together and it looked looked like it came out of a pre-fab shop. I don't recall seeing any welded seams. It was a oval cylinder shape and it was still a big sucker for supposedly being light weight.:spy:

As noted in this topic, maybe DOO had a problem with noise levels, maybe DOO decided to use up existing inventory, it may have been engineering issues, not sure and the letter doesn't explain it either.

There is probably grounds for a lawsuit if we get enough snowcheckers willing to sign. It would send a message, Skidoo is low-balling us and thinks we are stupid. We have choices, we could make it hurt if we got out of our snowchecks, getting or money back. It would screw the dealers as much as skidoo though is the bad part. Time and time again it feels like skidoo doesn't give a "hoot" about us. Is it time to go to Artic Cat who is just coming out of a humiliating corporate experience, where it feels like Skidoo and Polaris are just getting started.....WTF people pull your head out, (how does that translate into french?).

STUPIDEST POST OF THE WEEK.... YOU WIN !!

Here's the deal. .. in TINY print, there is a clause that states the manufacturer can change things as they see fit when manufacturing starts. YOU have the option to back out if that happens...

... don't like it? Opt out! Simple as that!

My .02 is that if it's the same weight as advertised, AND I can buy a can that sheds 14ish lbs, I'm a lot further ahead than getting their light weight can and THEN teeing to shed the 14lbs for 5 bills. ..

IMHO

the pipe is the same as the 2014. I already have my t-3 163 on my shop floor and the hps can fits rite in. fit and finish on this sled are great.
