2013 Pro RMK Pipe Options and Thoughts

Researching pipes for my 13 pro. I want a pipe to gain a little power and maybe lose weight as a side effect. I am a DTR member and looked at the manufacter numbers and prices. Out of respect for DTR, I will not post his actual numbers. Figured I would post my results and help others.

Items to consider:

- Many options require a power commander fuel box that costs $400.

- In reality, a pipe from any manufacture is going to give you about 5hp. A full system will give more.

- Heat is a killer on these machines, so ceramic would be suggested in my mind.

AAEN - This pipe gains a claimed 8hp from AAEN and loses 11lbs. People say its fit is not so great and saw a youtube video with some pretty poor welding and a not so tight fit. It is known for its torque and the HP looks to build at a lower RPM. Being a flat lander with stock clutching this may would most likely require no clutching changes. $700 for plain or $900 for ceramic-- I called and this setup requires a fuel box, but just the pipe does not. From what I could find the pipe will have the same power, but the weight loss cannot be as much. I would guess 5lbs. Just the pipe is $400 plain or $550 for ceramic. To get a ceramaic pipe and PC5 your looking at $1300.

SLP - This pipe gains claimed 7.6hp from SLP and loses 3.7lbs. Seems to be the popular pipe. It requires a fuel box, so that adds to the price and weight. Looking at the DTR sheet I will know it will require clutching work because the peak HP is at a higher RPM. They also suggest a High Flow Intake. Pipe setup is 680. SLP sells all the suggested items and clutching as a stage 2 kit for $1260.

Dynoport - Has a few options, but finding numbers was tough. DTR has dynoed just his pipe against others and it did well. Dynoport claims it to be even better with the y pipe that DTR did not have. No idea on weight loss. Uneasyrider has posted a 9.6hp multiple times on multiple forums. Called and talked to rich and he said his pipe setup does not require a power commander and either should anybody elses. Said it is only required when you do a high compression head with the setup. He does not suggest heads with sea level people. The pipe is A plain pipe setup is 1050 and Ceramic it is 1250.

BMP - Single pipe claims a 10hp gain and a 7.5lb loss, but it requires the PC5. I have used BMP stuff in my cats before and always had good success. So the suggested setup in ceramic is 1150.

So, now what pipe? LOL. First thing I noticed was that all the pipes with suggested setups are about the same price.

BMP looks like the best deal because it claims 10hp with just the pipe, but that number is double of DTR tests. Seems a little far fetched. I know in the past they have had problems delivering products on the east. This was years ago, but I remember a lot of angry cat people.

AAEN has good numbers and the $400 single plain pipe is most likely the best choice for most sea level people. No box and good proven power. The whole kit has good weight loss. The lady I talked to on the phone may have been a robot and had never heard of ethanol.

SLP seems to have the best bang for your buck. The numbers are nothing to exciting, but looks like a solid complete kit with a great price. At first I thought of them as pricy, but now I am the opposite. They also seem to be very very popular, so forum support and such will be easy.

Dynoport info required a phone call, but what a great call. He was not a robot and was fired up right after my first question. "Does you exhaust require a fuel controller?" He gets asked the same question 10 times a week. His big thing is his y-pipe that nobody else has and I believe this is how he is getting above the 5hp mark. He definately knows his stuff.

Leaning towards Dynoport, but getting the stage 2 setup from SLP seems like a good deal. I guess the question is. Is the power commander really needed or a gimmick...

I have a buddy who put a dynoport and barker can on his 13. No porting, heads or pipe or PowerCommander.

He's got a 163 and he gets just the same, or maybe 1 mph track speed more than I get with my 155. Sometimes I am pulling that over him though too.

Just pipe, can and put it on ethanol mode. Clutching. That's it. Not sure if he changed Y pipe or not.

It runs really well. The Barker can sounds REALLY good. NOT overly loud or tingy. More throaty.

Across a high elevation lake, we raced and were dead even. On the hill, he gets higher than I do by just a couple feet (we weigh just the same as each other)

Good throttle response, but that's assisted by good clutching.

If you're a flatlander (like I am) I would run a fuel controller no questions asked no matter what pipe you put on. We saw a lot of det going on this year with guys running their sleds with pipes and no fuel controllers around 2000 ft, especially on '13s. I don't know what pipes they were running though.

Whatever you do, DO NOT get the Aaen pipe. I tried last spring to run that pipe and constantly hit det even with the clutching and the dtr mapped pcv controller. Plus the fit and finish was horrible, it hit the cross bar on the pyramid, melted my hood when my sled was upside down(not ceramic coated), and the pipe cracked on me several times including snapping the egt probe bung off twice. Needless to say, it didn't stay on my sled for long. IMO this pipe wasn't worth it at all. I didn't feel any hp increase at all. Heck, I wouldn't give this pipe to someone, I would feel guilty then lol

Thanks. AAEN Crossed off the list. I was worried about that.

Good to know. You guys have ethanol fuel? Was there ECU set for eth or non eth? Did they add oil to their gas? I do not plan on adding oil to my gas and I may be running a little cocktail in my gas. :D

I ran dyno port this year, pipe and y pipe. Really wakes up the mid range and adds some power on the top end also. No fuel box needed on my sled

They were running 91 octane no ethanol and had their sleds on the ethanol setting no oil in the gas. When they went to the mountains they worked pretty good but back home they hit det too much. They kept trying to blame it on polaris so we told them to put the stock exhaust back in and they said they never had a problem again.

I have the Cpi pipe and can for my 910. Excellent pipe and excellent fit. I took the single off and had Mike at CPI build me some twins. I doubt the CPI single would fit the power band of the 800 but if it does I will sell it and the can for cheap. I will call mike tomorrow and ask him about it

Im running the SPI pipe and carbon fibre can. Running PCV with SLP stage 3 mapping and am very happy with power gains and the fit/finish is second to none. Also, if youre not crazy about noise the carbon fibre can from SPI may not be the best choice for you.

Sledheadd would you happen to have any vid. of your Pro with the Dynoport Barker can. Im looking into buying this setup but would like to hear it 1st. their are no vids on youtube of one. Thanks Ahead of time if you do.

I've got a few hundred miles on my Dynoport barker can...but no videos.
Same with my buddy....no vids.

LOL.

I'll get some up this year.

no one had experience from straightline performance?

Yes chk post #10. SPI is Straightline performance. Great pipe!
