2013 motors going in 2012's

So I blew a motor with 670 miles on my 2012 pro rmk. Got it warrantied thru factory 1 year with a new motor. I wanted to cross reference the part #'s to see if I was getting the new fuji crank and it seems I did. Crank part # ending in -0262 seem to be the fuji cranks from what I can tell. I also noticed on the cylinders it's stamped with a Jan 2013 build date. Seems to me that Polaris is using the complete 2013 motors for warranties on the 11/12 pros now.

Would like to know if anyone else has noticed this or has any other info to confirm my findings?

New 2012 cylinders would still bear recent casting dates.

If you got a whole engine...there is a good chance you got a 2013 short block.

Did they replace the entire engine for you?

I'm not 100% convinced that the new crank supplier is Fuji... but hey... anything is possible.

-- Crankcase and cylinders need to match due to thickened skirts -- if you got a '13 engine, good for you. Should be a better running engine with the upgraded crankshaft.

--Now either sell it or do a drop in kit, head, and fuel controller(You can sell the components separate when the time comes)

--Yeah, anything over 500 miles with OEM parts either freshen up the top end with a drop in kit or renew your warranty

It's people like you that ruin this forum

Why is that? He at least gave me something useful to confirm that I probably got a 2013 motor.

What I'm tired of is when people stick their head in the sand and refuse to accept the downfalls of this motor. I knew it before I even bought one. Still bought one though...

--This is just being real and practical -- my opinion of course.

--His motor blew up in under 700 miles. How does that make me the bad guy. Polaris needs to take responsibility for poor design and/or manufacturing going back several model years now. Good that he was able to have it covered under his ONE YEAR warranty and he got an arguably upgraded motor.

--Responsibility needs to be more than extended warranties and thickened skirts. CFI probably has the thickest skirts now, so what, problem not solved, it just transfers issues that need to be redesigned to the next weakest link.

--I realize riding a Pro is tons of fun -- enjoy the warm fuzzy feelings about owning and riding one, but don't let them keep you from expecting a more reliable/powerful product.

--I am not saying this is a comical image of a Pro motor. If that is what comes to your mind and you are offended, take personal responsibility.:face-icon-small-hap

--This reminds me of the repeated spin cycle a lot of Pro owners are going thru, and some of them really like it. After all, it is a fun ride. :face-icon-small-win

The thing is this forum way over exaggerates all the problem. Ever manufacturer has their problems, they are all equally the same in my mind. Had two 11s with 3000+ miles on then and they were both awesome sleds. A 12 with 2000 miles, not a single glitch and now 2 13s with 700+ miles and not a single problem. Our dealer has only done one motor in a pro and it was a cold seize. I love the way this motor runs, it's so good on and off the throttle. And in my mind is as reliable as any other 800. And if you actually think a fix kit is going to help reliability you are wrong.

What blew up?

One of the cylinders broke a compression ring and locked her up tight, first day on the sled. There rebuilding both cylinders other was scored. Still waiting to get it back, head is on back order. It was a great way to start a trip, thanks to Cooke City Exxon though they helped make it better

So I'm one of the guys that had a PAR 910 and gave up on it. I just bought a 13 motor for my 12 chassis and a friend told me that the 13 engines are different as the fuel injector bosses and fuel rails won't bolt up. Just wanting to clarify if this is true...

I'm hoping this motor bolts right in with no hiccups. Will I need a 13 ECU???

not so fuzzy feeling

I have been a polaris rider for 18 years and would not ride anything else. Love the pro chassis.....except on rough trails. I have blown up 2 motors in 3 years and now I am not so sold on the pro 800 motor. Just blew up my 2012 2 weeks ago. Broke the pistn skirt and grenaded the bottom end. Nice big window out the bottom. This winter I saw 3 2013s up on the mountain broken down.....2 with the driveshaft issue and one with a motor. Yesterday I read in another area we ride 2 more 2012s blew up and had to be town or airlifted (they had pics of the sleds being towed and lifted).

It KILLS me to say that I just dont think I am going to be riding a polaris next year. With so many different companies making "fix kits" and "long rod" kits for this motor it has to tell you something! You just dont see the same amount of motor issues with cats Suzuki or even ski doos Austrian built 800 rotax.

Sure they have other issues but not really much that will leave you stranded on the mountain. I was able to tow mine out 2 weeks ago but it was a helicopter ride and $1200 bill the first time. I am a mechanic by trade and have a background building race motors for everything from go karts to sprint cars to dirt bikes and stock cars. This motor is just weak. It is bad enough it is already that it is behind on HP, and cant be reliable.

The pro chassis and clutching is second to none but the motor is a gamble. I am sad to say that I have snowchecked a 2014 arctic cat m8000 limited 162, and will be a pleasure to only have to possibly worry about a belt blowing, which I think they have a pretty good handle on for 2014.

Sorry for the rant but I am just trying to be honest with my experiences here in BC. Good luck to all the remaining faithful polaris riders and I hope to return one day when they finally get rid of that motor and develop one that has direct injection and some comparable HP numbers and some proven decent reliability.

--Polaris will get the motor and drivetrain issues straightened out when it financially starts to hurt.... you'll be back in a couple years .... then again, the M8000 Limited is a really sweet ride...I really like the orange/black...
