2013 800 cylinder/engine changes

Still adding to the skirts ? What's the head count on that or years ? Have they gotten rid of that tin base gasket between two pieces of aluminum also ? Just like a brand new set of aluminum wheels , retorque after a few miles .

What will be interesting is if this is a fix or a band aid. Is it the tweak to a decent design that fixes the problem or a band aid that will have un-intended or un-foreseen ill effects. The engine seems like a poor design. The basic geometry of the engine is off and leads to failure. Also, there are some sub systems like the TPS and stingy oil injector that lead to a lot of reliability problems. There is nothing like real world use to show whether a product will work. The mountains are such a harsh environment. Like MH said, by March we will have a good idea. By March 2014 we will know for sure. So put your $12,000 down on the table and spin the wheel...

13 - 800 Updates

Ok sorry for the long delay it took some time to connect with Hanson Racing. I was told for a fact that all of the cranks are now from Fuji which I think we already knew and that indeed the cylinders have also had a physical change besides just the part numbers.

The port timing has also changed and Eric suspects that the compression ratio has changed slightly. Eric has not had one of the new 2013 800 motors torn down yet to but he has direct knowledge with the new fuji cranks which he states was a major improvement.

Soooooooo reading between the lines....are you saying possibly more power with compression ratio change and different port timing?

LikkerPig:

That remains to be seen right now but It is safe to say that Polaris is still making changes to help improve the lower end of the engine and with a different crank, jugs, and port timingf that has changed it looks like some concerns or issues are being addressed.

I guess time will tell if these cahnges make the motors last a little longer or not and hopefully more power would be a bonus too.

So the next logical question dealing with engine changes…

Are the changes enough to have the aftermarket stuff (heads, fixes, big bores, ect.) for the 2011-2112 engines be potentially problematic for the 2013?

How long till the aftermarket guys retool, or do they need to… Given the real world testing benefits.

The last snowcheck I did a pipe right off the bat… think I’ll give stock a whirl the first half season.

Merlin, While I agree that Factory Polaris would not want those that are tied to the company for whatever reason to put out in the public forums the changes that they made... I would not consider it an admission of design flaws...

I respect your opinion but I'm afraid we'll have to agree to disagree on this one..................:face-icon-small-win

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the 2012's came with the Fuji crank as well?

Yes, some of the 12's came with a Fuji crank. I do believe it was the assaults that came with them and the rmks came with the polaris crank...
They were phasing out their supply of polaris cranks.

I looked into it more and what I can find is the 2012 800's were built with both the Polaris (Type 1) and Fuji (Type 2) crank, regardless of Assaults or Pro RMK's (from the parts fiche). I'm pretty sure the Assaults were built after the Pro RMK's, so it would be make sense that at least some Assaults have the Fuji crank. All 2013's were built with the Fuji crank.

Joshua, I was told all of the long track sleds now will have the Fuji crank. It looks like that makes sense with your parts research.
