Family's can still have fun on a budget.
Yep.. that is why many buy used.
I have a used truck, a used sled, shop with coupons at the market, live in a modest home and watch what I spend.
Some people can buy new, some people can't... It has been that way since before even cars were sold.
Family of 4 on a budget...
Lets see... Regardless of brand, buy 3 excellent condition 2007 600's for about 12,000 (or less)... and one excellent condition condition used 800 for $6000 or less. ($18k total)
Or step back a little more in model-year and buy some other well maintained used sleds for even less.
A good friend of mine locally just bought a 4 place Floe trailer with 4 excellent condition, low mile mountain sleds (2-Poo 06 600's, 1-Doo REV, 1-cat M-7) for $11,000.... and is having a ball with his family.
If, at some point, sledding becomes more of a priority for him, like it is for most of the readers of this forum.. then he'll probably re-consider where he wants to put his money.
If you are talking about living on a budget, IMO, New Diesel trucks, new motorcycles, big houses, expensive vacations.... just aren't on the plate.
I feel the same crunch you all are... but in this age where a 1 year old sled is considered "OLD" (how many of us want to buy a new holdover IQ-600 next season?)... and where we as consumers want the OEM's to make a lighter, more maneuverable, more powerful sled...and wanting a new version every 3-5 years or it's just "BNG" complaints. I priced a new 250f dirt bike 2 days ago... OMG, over $7,000 and no warranty! A new Tacoma 4x4... $25k+ or a Diesel truck $40k+
I've read complaints on the web about the new 2012 releases... "I expected more from Polaris than just new graphics"... and this is the same radical new release that raised the bar just 4 months ago when consumers picked up their new sleds.
I hear people saying "I can't wait for D.I." or what about Fox floats from the factory... All that costs money.
To end this on a positive note... this new 600 PRO, which for all intents and purposes will rival 99% of previous model mod sleds... Is a ready-to-go, right out of the box, AWESOME SLED!!
For just $500 more than last years base IQ-chassis base model, you get the base model PRO-155 with an awesome chassis, and coil over suspension with 95% of the bells/whistles of the full blown PRO model.
My 2 cents.
agreed. Pricing for sleds is continuing to get more out of reach for most people.
