2012 Ford vs Dodge Diesel

Why did you guys choose Dodge? I really like the Ford lariat, except the price. The Ford is more refine then the Dodge Laramie. For basically the same truck the Ford is 5K more. Is it worth the price difference?

For me the Ford is overpriced compared to the Dodge. The interior of the Dodge is a lot nicer than the Ford, the ride is a lot better even with a lift kit. Plus the Cummins is a proven engine. They dont have to scrap it every two years and start over again because its a pos.

I was in the same boat. Comparing ford and dodge. For me the interiors were about equal. And the cummins is proven to be reliable. Some have claimed that the ford gets a little better mpg but in my case the two trucks were about 6k apart in price. You can burn a lot of fuel for 6 grand. Mine has been in the 15mpg neighborhood combined driving.

My dodge was cheaper to buy and cheaper to maintain. A few small issues covered under warranty but been solid otherwise. Huge improvement over my 06.

Have Dodge Also no complaint's.....No DPF...unless you buy cab&chassis, just another added expense!!!!

I currently own 3 dodge work trucks, and 1 2012 ford lariat for my personal truck, all srw 1 ton, 4 dr long beds.

I tow 12-14k lb loads everyday, lots of miles.

I own the dodges because they are cheaper to buy and I don't drive them, my guys do. Great work trucks. Lots of little stupid fixes, and the parts are always on back order because every other dodge has the same problem.

I just traded in my 01 f350, she had 360k miles, (hard pulling miles). I still miss her. I wouldn't touch another ford until the 6.7.

I test drove the crap out of dodges trying to talk myself into buying one. I could have saved 10 grand. But at the end of the day, I liked the ford much much better. I'm glad I went with the Ford, I would have regretted buying a Dodge. The Ford just fits me better.

I won't own chevy's because I destroy the front ends.

I have good friends with Fords, Dodges and Chevy's, they are all great trucks. Take what everyone says with a grain of salt (it is the internet after all). Test drive them, and go with your gut.

I bought my new ford the first week of April and already have 14k miles on her. I made them give me a 100k mile bumper to bumper warranty.

Good Luck:usa2:

What are you seeing for fuel mileage out of both of them?

I just went through that same dilema a couple of weeks ago. I had a nice Lariat picked out and took it for an afternoon test drive (several hours without a salesman bothering me). I thought the Ford felt quicker and smoother. I liked the power folding mirrors and the look a bit more than the Dodge. In the end I bought a Dodge Laramie. The Dodge was only about $4k less, but I also got a better stereo (Alpine system with built in Nav). I liked the idea that the Cummins uses way fewer parts to make nearly the same power (I realize they are rated the same, but it sure didn't feel like it). Either truck is way overkill for what I tow. Under the hood of the Ford is completely packed with hoses, wires etc., In the Dodge at least you've got some room under the hood, fewer parts means fewer things to wear out and break. I also like the sound of the Cummins better, sounds like a truck. I also test drove the new Ford gasser and just running around you could hardly tell which one you where in until you stepped on it. In the end it was a coin toss, you can't really go wrong with either. I like my Dodge and I also like not having to add DEF. BTW, this is my first diesel truck. I have several friends with the newer Dodges and they all love them and haven't had any problems.

The 07.5 and up Dodges all have DPF's. Did you mean Urea?

I've got a 2010 Ram 2500. I've got nearly 50,000kms with 0 issues. Absolutely love this truck. I've deleted and tuned mine as well. Gas mileage is much better and soooo much more power.

I personally thought the Dodge interiors were nicer than the Ford. The ride quality on my Dodge is also great even with a 4.5" lift. And the price difference was quite a bit when I was looking. I paid $58k out the door in 2010 for a Laramie. There's was no way I could have got a Ford or Chev optioned out like this for the price.

One downside to the Dodge is the 68RFE trans. It will not hold any real power if you are chipped. If you stay stock or on a mild tune, you will be just fine.

On the other hand, the Fords have great power and very strong transmissions. They also have a lot less turbo lag than the Dodges. My only concern with Fords is reliability. They will definitely need a few more years under the belt to ever get me to look into one. Kind of like the Polaris sleds. :face-icon-small-coo

I'm always towing a pretty heavy load, and when empty I can't go the speed limit.

Dodge empty 18. Ford empty 17.
Dodge loaded 12. Ford loaded 14.

I could get better, but I'm always in a hurry.:face-icon-small-hap

The Ford's turbo is crazy off the line. I had to relearn to drive this truck, but it has been fun. Especially when some punk in a rice burner tries to beat me up the freeway on ramp. Some beat me but most don't.

Both trucks are nice

I put 48000 mile on my 6.7 ford last year with zero issues, I felt the truck was a turd stock so it got some improvements from h&s, black maxx 5" exhaust and egr delete, ran like a truck should after that, fuel mpg went from 14-16 stock to 15-18 with the goodies. Now I own a 2012 6.7 dodge with the same goodies from h&s fuel mpg was 10-14 stock with the goodies its 20-25 ! I love the milage and fit and finish of the dodge, ford has way better electronics with the sync system trailer sway control e-locker folding mirrors and programable keys, Love the dodge but the ford felt like it made more power but smoked twice as much, the laramie dodge is the nicest truck I have owened interior wise, sorry about the spelling ! This is just my opionon, If I could choose any truck it would be a ford raptor with a 6.7 scorpion motor in it with all the h&s goodies !

I have a 2010 Dodge 3500 SRW 6.7 Auto, Mega Cab, 4wd. Truck rides ok, little rough over unlevel railway tracks, but it is a 1 ton. I have about 40,000 kilometers on the truck right now. So far it's been nice aside from some issues.

At 13K, I had the valve body and solenoids fail and left the tranny in limp mode. I bought the truck with 8000km on it, so I don' tknow if it was driven hard prior. Once the dealership fixed the valve body (23 days in the shop), they successfully managed to short a couple of wires and fry the Main ECM and took them another day or two to determine if it was under warranty. When I went to pick it up, I got halfway across the lot and found they forgot to program the ECM and address the injectors..truck didn't know which injector was firing when..amazed it ran. After 30 days I got my truck back and it's been good since.

I had a 04 2500 with a 5.9 in it. I still miss that truck. The 6.7L is nice, the variable vane turbo setup is a little different to get used to. My mileage when new and tight was ok..I averaged around 14 mpg around the city and 17-18 highway. After Mini Maxx tuning and DPF deletes, the truck feels real good and my mileage on the highway is right around the 20 mpg mark, some days a little better, some a little worse. The tranny tuning from H&S really made the Tuner come alive. Prior to tuning, I found the tranny was a little confused.

I would buy the same truck again, but with the 800 motor. The tranny seems to be tuned a little better stock, and power/mileage wise seems like an improvement as well.

Towing a loaded trailer, truck tracks real nice, exhaust brake works well, and plenty of power to spare towing in a 60hp tune.
