I bought a new 2011 Pro 155" last year and bought a use 163" this fall. I recently noticed black oil in the belly pan on the 163". It leaked between the
Y-pipe and the exhaust pipe. I cleaned up the belly pan and I took the gasket that goes in between the two pipes and brought it to the dealer. They told me it was bad so I ordered a new one. Eight days later I installed it and ran it and rode it for about 30 minutes. Took a look and once again oil all over the belly pan. So now I decided to look at the 155" to see if it too had an issue. Yup! Oil in the belly pan there too. Same thing, clearly leaking between the two pipes on the under side . I think the problem is that the Y-pipe and the exhaust pipe are at different angles. Or should I say on a different plane. The gap on the bottom is slightly greater than the gap on the top. The 155" has 1100 miles and the 163" has 413 miles. My next attempt will be to get some Permatex Ultra Copper and put it on the gasket. Two sleds with the exact same problem. This can't be an isolated incident:devil:.
 
My new to me Pro 163 has the same problem. When I decide to put a new can on, I am going to permatex the Y while I am in there.
 
It's just oil, clean it up and ride. That donut is never gonna have an oil proof seal, and I'd be happy to have a little more oil based on their history. Having worked on these sleds for a few years now, this is not a big deal other than a little mess.
 
Mine had the same thing, and so did a couple sleds that friends of mine purchased. I thought it had something to do with breathers on the exhaust valves that dripped a little. I guess I haven't checked my pipe/y-pipe connection to see if its coming from there too. My M8 sprayed its exhaust/oil mixture all over under the hood until I changed the exhaust. I know this problem has been addressed on here already somewhere.

You guys sure made my day. I am new to this forum stuff so I hope I was not repeating old news. I just don't remember having this issue with my other sleds in the past. My dealer said they put the permatex on their race sleds, so I am going to try that. I guess my main concern was getting oil on the clutches.:faint:

Also.. To add PRo8250 Did you run the Drip/vent hose out the exhaust hole yet..

Doing this will keep all that oil Mess clean!

I replaced the stock vent tubing with a longer tube (2 ft length).

I routed it along the left forward body panel just aft of the shock tower, through the right port hole in the front lower brace and out the right shock tower opening. Due to the natural stiffness and curve of the tubing it held firm without zip ties but I did replace the zip tie at the stock location on the cross brace. I drilled a 1/8 hole in the belly pan inset 3/8 from the edge of the opening and zip-tied the vent tube in place---no sludge in my belly pan after 81 break-in miles.
 
vent more than pipe imho....but the permatex copper is what I use on all exhaust dounts...put it on, connect and let it sit overnight before starting the motor....if not hardened it will mush out under pressure. I also add a few extra springs on the conection as well.

No question that it was coming out of the pipe. Only exhaust out of the tube. But I suppose that would add up to some oil over time.

It all makes sense now. One more trip to NAPA for a hose and good to go! I am assuming that the exhaust will come apart later even with the pematex on?

I coated all my exhaust contact surfaces with the Permatex copper. It smelled pretty bad for a while with the engine running, and after 100 or so miles I started to see signs of oil seepage. It's not a total solution, maybe adding some extra springs as well would do a better job. My first hundred miles was with extra break-in oil in the tank so I will be watching the oil in the pan issue now that I do not have the extra oil being burnt.

I was told about the extra spring trick and to bend the hooks on both pipes back just a little. Also fill the inside of the springs with high temp silicon. I can't sat whether this will work or not but I hate the idea of oil laying around inside my sled.
 
don't let some of these slobs tell you it's okay, a properly maintained sled has a clean engine compartment.

Extra springs and perma-tex inside and outside of the ring will take care of the issue.

Thanks. Like I said I hate having oil all over the place. Got the sled done and will start it up on Sunday (12/18) to verify that the remedy worked.:tea:
 
I think it is coming out of the vent tube for the exhaust valve solenoid>
