I also posted this on BCR. If polaris shows that the belt clearance should be 20-30 thousandths, but it is 85 thousandths, does polaris cover this with warranty?

i would guess, no. it needs to be re-shimmed to get the correct clearance. if you do that then you should really have it rebalanced. carl's does a good job but there are many other options also.

If you have a really good dealer they might help you out but other wise I think you are on your own. It makes a big difference in belt life and the way your sled performs.

If it does not meet spec... then the dealer should take care of it on a new sled.

Have you told the GM of the store that you would like the sled to be within spec and asked when you could bring it in.

Does the service department have the experience?

For $70 you can send in a new clutch to Indy Specialties and have the clutch blueprinted, balanced and shimmed by one of the best in the business.

indy dan quoted me double that

Same thing with Carls for the clutch mod. if its new its cheaper then used. The used ones they go through and make sure that they are in good shape prior to balancing and cutting.

Which two points is this 'clearance' supposed to be measure from

I'm pretty sure you push the belt tight against the stationary sheave and measure the gap between the moveable sheave and the belt... Not sure why you would have to measure two points but maybe measure the top and then measure the bottom then take a average of the gap...

I thought I read somewhere that polaris did this so you could run the 080 belt which is stightly wider? Doesn't make alot of sense to me. I know on my asphalt sled, as in most cases, "tighter is better"...
