2011/2012 Whistler/Pemberton Conditions

Update Jan 3 2012

Conditions haven't been updated for a while, too busy riding! We received alot of snow over the holidays, up to 100cm (3 feet) in some areas in the last week or so. Great riding conditions right now, and the forecast is calling for more - up to another 50 cm this week with some clearing for the weekend. Avalanche conditions are rated high right now, and with stormy conditions, tree riding is where it's at. Sleds are prepped, fueled and ready to go.

Road Sproat today. it was wet at the parking lot and raining almost to the cabin but boy was it deep deep deep from the cabin up. 3 to 4 feet of fresh . and only 3 sleds there today :) I love it when you all stay home.....lol

Cat Lake / Black Tusk snowmobile cabin / area

Since we have no snow, looking for some new areas up North. Went to Revy last weekend, want to try Brandywine or the Cat Lake area. Saw it on the Black Tusk snowmobile club site. Don't know a whole lot about either. Been to the Ice Cap a couple times, but we like tree riding and exploring.

Heading up Thursday night to ride Fri and Sat. Any help would be appreciated........

road whistler and pemberton last wed and thur

Road with chris brown on wed in peberton. It was pretty icey down low for about the first 10 miles or so then it just kept getting better until it was about 2 feet of powder. Road from about 9 am till 5 pm then one of the guys lost a cylinder in his sled and had to take long way out. Chris was awsume I would recomend him to anyone, good quick safty training and great backcountry riding. And we stayed with him at his house for what I thought was a very reasonable rate and great food and his gal is probably the coolest gal I've met. Check him out if your headed to whistler. When we left on sat they were getting snow back in town don't know how much though

Anyone know of anywhere to stay in pemberton with 3 or 4 guys? pemberton valley lodge's rates are a little steep! they are after tax $160 a night!

Please be careful up there...

I just heard from a friend of a slide up there, one person caught in it.

News said Whistler, and from what I heard, it was in Callaghan area.

From the Whistler Question:
Despite media reports of an avalanche fatality in the Callaghan Valley this afternoon, a member of the Whistler Search and Rescue team told The Question that a snowmobiler was buried in the incident but was rescued.

The avalanche took place in the Chocolate Bowl in the Brandywine area, about 15 minutes south of Whistler.

There were no fatalities in the slide, though search and rescue personnel are continuing to look for additional people who may have been caught, the source said."

Pat,

The news is wrong. Dennis Leski, 46 year old good friend of mine from Squamish died at 3:40 today. Very sad.

RIP Dennis! You will be missed! :brokenheart:

Rod,
I am sorry to hear that.

I see that the Whistler Question has changed the article, about 15 minutes after I posted.

Condolences to family and friends.

Epic day turned tragic. It was at grizzly lake and it was a huge slide. By the time we had him out it was to late. CPR was performed for close to an hour.

RIP
