2010 silverado crew vs 2010 tundra crewmax

Driving an 150 vs tundra or 6.0 chev is like a nytro with no turbo... Nice but not in the same ballpark... (will give f150 credit on interior though... Think thats why ford sells any trucks.
 
For what it's worth.

GM - 5 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty
Ford - 5 year/60,000 mile powertrain warranty
Toyota - 5 year/60,000 mile powertrain warranty

Those are important numbers if you have to start paying out of your pocket.

I'd get the GM with the 6.2 liter motor. That would rip!
 
I have a 2007 Tundra Crewmax AND a brand new 2009 Yukon XL 1500. I kicked around the idea of trading in my Crewmax due to the fact that they were going to give me $33,000 trade in for it!! I ONLY paid $35,000 18 months ago! (I got $10,000 off the sticker due to an end of model year sale.) They were also offering 0% financing!!!

Anyway, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE my Tundra. I test drove the 5.3L Sierra and it wasn't even close. Even with my Tundra having 25,000 miles on it, the Sierra couldn't match the Toyota's engine for smoothness. The Sierra was also HUGELY lacking on torque and power compared to the Tundra. This is also the case with my new Yukon. The Sierra as well as my Yukon were running 3.73 gears. The Tundra runs 4.30.

Now don't get me wrong, there are some things I like about the Sierra over the Tundra. I liked the softer leather seats, a little smoother ride when not towing due to the fully boxed frame over the triple tech frame, and the mechanical LSD over the electronic LSD. Also the Auto 4WD is nice. Unfortunately, these pluses were over shadowed by the huge powertrain advantages by the Tundra. Another huge factor for me is that comparing values between the Sierra/Silverado and the Tundra you will see it greatly favors the Toyota. I checked resale value on Sierras/Silverados and my Tundra that both sold for $45,000 in 2007 and the Tundra consistently was valued in the $32000 - $33000 range and the Sierra/Silverado fell into the $26000 -$27000 range. Losing $6,000 in a couple years is huge if you trade vehicles very often.

Needless to say I kept my Tundra. The ONLY trucks I would consider checking out would be the 1500 with the 6.0L or 6.2L or the 2500 with the Duramax.

So in summary:

Tundra pluses:
  • MUCH better engine than the 5.3L
  • Better towing capacity over standard 5.3L 1500
  • Smoother transmission
  • 4.3 gears
  • Full vertical sliding rear window WITH defroster
  • Much better resale value
  • Much more room in the back seat
  • Did I say POWER?!?!?! (How does 0-60 in 6 secs sound?! ;))

Sierra/Silverado pluses:
  • Cost - 0% for 60 months saves a lot over the life of a loan!
  • Better overall ride - smoother
  • Better Limited Slip Diff - Mechanical over Electronic
  • Automatic 4WD
  • Bose is a little better than the JBL
  • Duramax option

Making a general statements like "Toyotas are gay" and "it's a Camry with a box" is idiotic. Unless I guess you are okay with the fact that a "Camry" will out tow a Sierra, Silverado, and F-150. :rolleyes:

That's so not true. Maybe if you compare a 5.3 1/2 ton Chevy to the Tundra. But Tundra's are much more money and with 0% financing, you can probably get an LS Duramax for close to the price of a Tundra. We all know what will tow more in that situation.
 
I don't know about the newer engines in any of the makes, but my 2001 Toyota 4.7 requires a timing belt & water pump replace every 90,000. Manual also states to check valve clearance ever 60k but the dealer says don't worry about that unless it is making noise, etc.

Getting timing belts and water pumps replaced is not cheap, and even if you don't drive that many miles, they recommend every 7 years.

Just something to consider.

IF you can qualify for the 0% I agree. That's why I bought the Yukon and not the Sequoia.

The ONLY way to match the Sierra 1500 and the Tundra for towing is to get the 6.0L with he Max Trailering package and 4.10 gears. If you can find one. But even at that the 6.0L is behind the Tundra's 5.7 in power and torque. Even the Denali with the 6.2 is 800 lbs behind the Tundra for towing.

Now I agree that the Duramax is a fantastic setup for towing. And as long as there is 0% its hard not to consider. However, if gas starts to jump again diesel again out pace premium for price. They can get VERY pricey. Also the Duramax isn't available in the 1/2 ton.

So back to my original comment about the Tundra being a "Camry." Apples to apples it's a "Camry" that will out tow the standard 1/2 tons offered by GM and Ford.

If that makes it "gay" so be it.
 
iv'e owned a chevy wit a 350 in it, an f150 with the 4.7L, and a chevy heavy half 6L...i've also driven a chevy with the 5.3L in it...In my opinion if your gonna be pulling anything, the bigger the engine the better. After I had my 350 and went to the ford I hated it....which is why I bought the heavy half last year...the 6L is great and I deff. recommend it, but if thats not what your lookin for go with what you feel. But if your buying new, I think the warranty is a really big selling point

I agree for the most part. I am pretty underwhelmed with the 5.3L in my Yukon. I do like the economy though. The wife has seen up to 22 mpg avg on the highway! I would like to drive the 6.0L but they are harder to come by with the options I would want.

Like anything I recommend to ANYONE not to be so blinded by brand loyalty that they succumb to ignorance instead of keeping an open mind.

I have owned Ford, Chevy, GMC, and Toyota trucks and SUV's. They ALL have their pluses and minuses. NEVER discount ANYTHING without going and taking a look for yourself. Drive em all. That's the only way to really see the comparisons for yourself.

If you owned a ford with a 4.7 you must have had the only one available. Its a 4.6 and those were dogs for sure. The 5.4 runs good but still lacks compared to the chevy 6.0 and Toy 5.7. Still cant beat the Ford for quality and low cost of ownership. Great truck just dont get to the top of the hill as fast.
 
I have been a GM guy most of my life. I just own a 1/2 ton right now. But seeing as though Ford did not take any money from the government and they were the only ones that made some money lately. I am SERIOUSLY considering a Ford for my next truck. For me I like how Ford did not take any money and did it on their own. I want a 3/4 ton diesel. I really do like how the Toyota truck looks and they are nice on the inside. If I was going to stay with a 1/2 ton I definitely would consider a Toyota. I wonder if Toyota has any plans for a 3/4 ton and diesel?

GM made more money than Toyota and Ford last quarter. However, that wouldn't be part of my decision as to what to buy. Neither would the fact that the government has stakes in GM. I'm going to buy what I want and what works for me. Toyota had to get government assistance in Japan, you just don't hear about it much here.

At some point, that is just bragging rights. My 2005 5.3 had no problems pulling my 3-place Aluma trailer. My Duramax does it much better ;), but that 5.3 pulled everything I pulled at it. My point is that even 1,000 lbs difference is not going to be a big difference between the Tundra and 1500 series. Neither will pull a 4 place steel enclosed with sleds worth a damn.
 
I heard GM has the new 6.2L in the Max with the Allison tranny, would be my first choice for gas truck.

BugIto - I was speaking out of frustration with how things currently are. It will be interesting to see the next profits for all the manufactures because the cash for clunkers is not around to help push the sales numbers up. And when it comes time to buy my next truck I should only use 3 things - looks, price, performance. I still do like Duramax, I have a couple of friends that have them and really like them. My mom also works for a division of GM (not related to the auto) and I can get a discount through her - that is still hard to pass up.
 
Get the Chevy.

You and all your friends have allready put a substantial down payment on it and all their other models.

You'd only hate yourself if you got the Toyota, paying for both trucks and all, realizing it was that much better would only make you a bitter person!:p
