2010 silverado crew vs 2010 tundra crewmax

Do not turn this into an american vs foreign truck debate.

Been looking at new trucks the last couple weeks and have it narrowed down to a 2010 silverado LT crew with the 5.3 and a 2010 tundra SR5 crewmax with the 5.7. Through dealer connection the chevy would be about $4K cheaper.

I prefer the looks, price, interior, auto 4x, displacement on demand, and column manual shifter on the chevy.

On the tundra I prefer the motor, the way it drives and feels, and the extra room.

I have to admit that my last 3 trucks have been toyotas and have had great luck with them, but the new Chevys are really growing on me.

Again, please don't turn this into a USA vs japan truck debate.

Thanks guys

im surprised that the chev is 3gs cheaper... i would prefer the looks as well of the chev.

one thing i noticed of my friends tundra he put on a little bit bigger tires and he the fuel mileage really went to the ****z. i dont know if it has to do with the chip (although most chip brands claim hp/tq increase & fuel mileage)

the crewmax did feel somewhat roomie.

i would get the chev but i mite be a little biased :)

Explain the above in more detail. Why do you prefer there motor and what feels better? Under steer or over steer, hard or soft ride or braking pedal too soft and so on....... I only ask because I'm a dealer that has both and maybe I can answer a few of your questions in a unbiased way.

Not sure if AFM is the same as DOD or not but I have an 08 with the 5.3 and the "active fuel management" is a gimmick(IMO). I don't think it really helps mileage that much(maybe 1 more mpg). When I get my new ECM in a few weeks I'm having them elimate that and the stupid "torque managament". Love my truck, but AFM and TM need to go. I have the 4-speed though and it's annoying as hell that you can't hammer on the gas. I posted my mileage numbers in the other thread, but with the stock 265's you'll see 19-20 mpg on the hwy, with 285's 17-18 hwy, and 14-15 city.

I don't think you could wring with either one. My only huge gripe with the Yota is the amount of bed flex they have(watch the F-150 comparison video an Fords website). No truck should flex that much, and that was without any weight in the bed

I have always been a toyota fan. I had a toyota in highschool and it always got me home when we went out muddin. Don't get me wrong I broke alot of stuff but it always was able to limp home. I got several calls in the middle of the night from my buddies with ford, chevy and dodge to come pick them up somewhere or pull them out of a hole.

Toytas are gay. All they are is a camry with a box. I'd rather cut off my penis with a spoon than drive one.

Did I mention I don't care for them?

So do you have a legit complait about them or are you just to manly to admit that you drive a vehicle that was created by a group of people that lost the war to us. if they were called Whites, then would you drive one?

Talk to your Chevy dealer and see if he can find you a 1/2 ton with the max towing package. You get the 6.0 engine, 6 speed tranny, 9 1/2 inch rear end, and best of all rear disc brakes. Will run circles around the Jap stuff, and still get about the same mileage.

No offense they're good trucks but I dont like how they dont box there frame, also im not a fan of how they have sensors on all for corners that beep, rode in one for about an hour and almost went insane from all the beeping. I just like american trucks thats all I guess.

^ You can turn the sonar on and off with a button if it's bothersome.

The Tundra crewmax is quite a bit bigger in the back seat, and I also prefer the ride and handling....particularily the turning circle, which is unbelievable for a full-size truck. Toyota resale will likely have an edge over the chevy, and I think the truck looks a little better but that's personal preference. Toyota still leasing at good rates, not sure about Chevy....if that's a concern to you.

Power is comparable, interior look and feel is a personal preference thing. There's a few options you can't get one that you can on the other and vice versa. I would go with which ever one puts a bigger smile on your face when you drive it.

The chevy is actually a little more than $1000 more based on the sticker price. My best friend is a sales manager at a chevy dealer so I can get a very good deal on it.

The 5.7 feels much more refined and responsive than the 5.3. Didnt really get a chance to put either truck through conditions enough to get a good feel for under or over steer doing mainly city test drives. The new tundra feels somewhat similar to my current tundra so maybe thats why i prefer it, but I just didnt feel connected to the silverado. The steering was ridiculously light and had no "feel", the tranny didnt give much responsiveness at slow speeds, it did have good power but didnt feel as refined or powerful as the tundra. It is funny though, i drove a 2010 LT 5.3 suburban last week for about 100 miles and the steering was sharp, the power was immediate, and the ride was fantastic. If the silverado felt like the suburban in the steering and power delivery than it would make my decision easy.

You are right, AFM is the correct term. Rims and tires will be going on immediately. Debating on 22's or a set of 18's with dueler revo's (leaning towards the 18's and revos).

That video of the bed flex is worrysome. Then again I dont really see myself going down rocky creek beds at 30mph for extended periods of time either though. I readily admit that my truck will mainly be a pavement queen and wont do any real offroading outside of dirt roads and trails down to some lakes or streams

Good point on the resale value. I prefer the looks of the chevy, but the tundra puts a bigger smile on my face when I drive it. The chevy is still a great truck and a big step up from my current 01 Tundra.

Thanks for the advice and responses guys.

Funny how things work out. Saw this one since i wanted dark interior with SR5 console shifter (one of only 3 in the state) and fell in love with this truck and couldnt be happier. Dont mean to bash Chevy, but this truck is ridiculous and was a much better deal. Glad I didnt make a mistake and followed my heart and stayed with Toyota. Big thanks to Kendall Toyota / James McPhee / Jason Bartlett for SERIOUSLY hooking me up on the deal for this truck.

Debadged it this morning.

Misc thoughts........... buy stock in BFG rubber because turning the traction control off with 381 HP and 401 ft/lbs is an instant hard on, streaming music from my iphone wirelessly through the trucks stero is just wrong on so many levels, i wont use the back up camera (which displays in the rear view mirror while in reverse) all that much but it sure it cool to show off to friends.

Hello Sawyer,
It's been awhile, but as for chevy vs Toyota.......Junk vs Gas Guzzler.
I own a 07 Duramax, 3 pitman arms & Idlerarms in first 48,000 mi. I put
4-6 K a month on and 98 % is hyway. After $ 2000 in after market parts in my front end, [inc upper controlarms] I may have it fixed. GM is junk, 4th set of trans cooling lines. The list could go on & on....GM has been nothing but a pain in my #%*. I've driven chevy for 16 years, [ford 26 yrs] before. I need a large truck so I guess my only choice is back to Ford....:D
