Hey everyone new to the site.
I got a 2010 polaris assault this fall just curious on peoples thought of them!
It has 1200 miles on it and has had no problems also still on stock reflash!
Did i get a good motor or shouldnt i get my hopes up??

First off Welcome to SW. I also have a 2010 assault the motors do have problems at low elevations. were do you ride. anything done to it like PCV, head, pipe, track, etc. I personally haven't had the best luck. 2000 miles and on 3rd motor. the motors have problems with the pistons slapping in the cylinders. if it was me pull the exhaust valves out check the piston walls mag side is usually the bad one. if you have to rebuild it go to

http://www.pmspolaris.com/thefix.htm

and put the fix kit in Shawn is a great guy. It fixes the problem before you wreck the monoblock.

Not trying to scare you just giving you the facts man. but the sled it self frickin rips. thing is awesome in the trees.

Also change fuel filter before the 1000 mi mark. its small and plugs fast will lean the motor and burn it down. I change mine every 500mi as that was the cause of the first motor loss. the dealers have an aftermarket filter now that is made in the same factory but half the cost.

good luck with your and ride safe.

2010 assault

i personally don't think that there were any problems with the 2010 motors considering they had all the updates done, unlike the 2009 motors which aren't very good and i know a few people that have gone through 1 or 2 motors. i have a 2009 polaris assault (full slp pipe, power commander 5, air horn kit, iqr shocks) i love it. it has no problems getting the skis in the air. The only thing I don't like is that the ski width is wider than the dragon so it makes it a little harder to sidehill and boondock. I think that you got a great sled...sled works better on hard pack due to the track by the way.

Im just getting the reflash done today. I live in north Dakota but go out west a few times a year. I hope I got a good motor and can't wait to rip this thing

That’s not correct... The 2010 motor is not any better than the 2009 or 2008 after they had updates done to them. Mine '09 was a 2010 carry over and had all the motor updates done to it before it was run. I also had all the reflashes done when they were released to solve a small midrange bog problem. :face-icon-small-con

Still showed some scoring on the pistons at 2121 miles. The 08-10 Polaris 800cc motors all have the same $#itty pistons that are not up to spec in piston/cylinder clearance. They had recalls on the 2008 and 2009 to put double ring pistons in like the 2010s but a lot of these motors are still having burn down issues. :face-icon-small-sad

Go with the fix kit for the $585 (~$660 after shipping, wrist pins, ect..) from PMS Polaris. I agree Shawn is a great guy to work with and it is well worth the money to protect your sled, increase the hp (4-6 hp), and keep it running for years to come. They have sold over 1000 of these kits with no issues to date. IMO they are proven, the design makes sense, and the piston-to-cylinder clearance is much better! :face-icon-small-hap

Other than the motor issue, make sure you place a cover over the Headlight adjuster. Snow can get into the air box and cause engine problems. I just made a homemade removable cover with some Velcro for $5 bucks. No need to buy the SLP one for $34. :face-icon-small-win

Other than those small quirks, you will love your sled. The chassis is amazing and very easy to handle! Hope it works out well for you and you enjoy it as much as have! :first:

I just pulled my exhaust valves off. Everything looks good no skoring or anything like that. I also just got the polaris update. my sled has never had one yet so ill pray that nothing happened.:face-icon-small-con

sounds like your ready to grip and rip. if you have a midrange stumble put a power commander V on pretty easy to get a map for it. jim at dyno tech can help you out there. other than that have fun

where in nd are you from

F-Town (Fargo) haha grip and rip in the flat lands! we need snow first though! heading to cooke in a few weeks tho and in feb again

This summer, I too took off my exhaust valves and did not see any scoring so I thought I was safe. But I decided to get the fix anyway just to be safe in the future. When removing the pistons to install the fix, all of my scoring was on the backside (Intake side). The scoring was on both of the pistons. This is only something you can see if you actually take your motor apart.

2010 slightly more reliable than 08-09 with cylinder head improvements... I have 1200 miles on mine. No serious issues yet for me, I like mine so far...
April flash and correct clutch weights for my altitude(0-3000) fixed midrange stumble.
Planning on doing "The Fit Kit" some aftermarket head... new scratchers and fuel filter for this season... Maybe a slp pipe and CE track change for the next season.

Mine is stock except for MBRP can and i just got the rescent reflash from polaris. I just hope everything runs good this year and ill do stuff this summer possibly
