2010 Nytro's / Apexs..

I'm a Doo lifer but was thinking of jumping ship to reliability, most likely a nytro. I rode one last weekend and loved it. Thing is I'm not a turbo guy nor can I afford it. As I own an XP now I don't really want to lose too much power and climbing capability. The track on the Nytro is too small no? If they made a nytro with 140hp and got a longer and wider track I'd be in for sure. I'd even be willing to lose some climbing capability. The Nytro boondocks real nice, but it just isn't anywhere near the performance of an XP. Not trying to stir the pot, it's just my opinion. I've seen guys put on tunnels and tracks but really how much does that help without a turbo?? And does anyone know if they plan on putting in a bit more power and track?? Or is there anything else a guy could do to make her go better?? Thx..

As far as 2010 goes I do not now. But a track tunnel and some light waight parts on the nytro and it's a hole new sled. It goes real good but not quit as well as the xp. I have spent a good amount of time on both I like the nytro the best. You can't beat the snap of the four stroke engine.

yah I agree the motor is awsome... but a tunnel, suspension and track is big bucks..

Maybey its not that much when you add up all the down time you have with the xp and all the belts they blow and the 50$ a gallon oil.spark plugs etc. I think you could leave the stock tunnel and run a 162 track. tracks are not that much money. Just make the switch I did and im loving it.

4 Stroker

Hey Sylvanlaker - i jumped the 2 stroke thing - you want reliability and power - go for it. I am on a Apex Turbo!! Wow,turn the key and ride the flippen thing.
Would you consider a Turbo Apex??

Saw a clip on U-Tube from Hauck Racing. They were prepping a Nytro to race against a dragster. Besides a lot od suspension changes for the ashphalt they were tuning for more power. Header, muffler and air filter accounted for 15hp and dropped about 10lbs. Still heavy compared to the XP but 150hp.
Not likely to keep up with XP yet but will improve for sure.
I've had the XP146 and currently have a Nytro MTX and the XP wins in most categories except reliability and handling(at least in the deeper stuff),but I think you'll need a turbo to compete in performance and then it will not be a contest.

Ya, tough to compete with an XP without adding boost, but add boost and it's all over, An xp won't even be able to follow in your tracks. No bs

Where all turbo guys. Some of us just have'nt figured that out yet. Buy the Nytro and get a 2nd job at Maverick or collect night crawler in the morning before work and save enough money for a turbo.

Its too bad they dont mak the Nytro in stock form with a 162" track. By the time you tunnel, track, new rails etc your over 3k if you do it yourself or 5k to have someone else do it. I love the Nytro, but personally would'nt ride one in stock form. I dont see the point in buying one for 13k adding track/tunnel etc for 3 to 5k and getting your arse handed to you by every 700 & 800cc on the mountain.

If you only care about highmarking, then yes it is the wrong tool for the job. But I rarely have a problem not going where the 800's go. I guess were I ride it is more technical and skill oriented than there, that or our mountains are smaller and the snow wetter.

Has nothing to do with highmarking, i dont play the "highmark" game. We get 4' dumps of fresh pow, maximum floatation is a must IMO. Besides that, a 153 with tipped rails is a wheelie monster, with rider weight of 215 + gear the 153 just doesnt cut it for me. Tough to ride Technical lines in 3+ feet of snow standing on the rear axle. Thats just my personal opinion, some people may love the 153, i just dont.

My guess is there will be a new Apex for 2010. Vroom Vroom

Rode the Nytro last weekend and had fun. It seemed ok on the hill, great in the trees boondocking but just not enough poop for me. If I bought one it would definitely need to lose 30+lbs and add 30+hp. I would get one if it came stock that way.

Hopefully someone at Yamaha is listening. They have the reliability down. Now just get the fun factor involved.

Happy Riding!
