2010 IQ Shift 600 Studding

I am thinking about studding the track on my 2010 IQ Shift 600. I purchased the sled in December 2010 as a leftover and added the outer wheel kit immediately but no studs. I was thinking of 96 studs in the center of the track with a length of 1" since the lug height is .91" . Are tunnel protectors neccessary and/or recommended. Any thoughts are appreciated.

I think 96 is too light. I'd recommend at least 120 1.075 studs, alternating 3 inside then 2 outside. Studs under the slide rail provide much better hookup than the ones in the center. Not sure of the tunnel cooler configuration on the IQ Shift. Typically the coolers would double as a tunnel protector, but I don't think that is the case on your sled. Just take a look in your tunnel and see if your coolers run over the track clips and stand tall enough to keep the studs off the tunnel. If they don't, then plan on buying some some tunnel protectors. They are relatively inexpensive. jmo... Good luck!

Take a look at, say, the Woody's web site and in it, there will be stud installation patterns for various amounts of studs depending on your use, track length, track type and lug heigth. When you get the studs, follow the installation patterns exactly. The stud patterns have been worked out with the track manufacturers. Free-lancing stud patterns may ruin the track. Look under the tunnel and you will probably find a "T" looking extrusion coming from the heat exchanger. Polaris makes a wear strip kit that will attach. Do not run a studded track without the wear strips. You will also have to determine whether you have a single ply or 2-ply track as the studs are different.
