The Holy Cross Powder Hounds will be hosting our 3rd annual snow drags event at 4 Eagle Ranch in Wolcott, CO again this year. We've had a lot of hoops to jump through but we are set in stone for February 6th, 2010 for a one day event (Saturday). Come run your sled against other sledders from Colorado and surrounding states. We have classes for every sled including woman's, open (turbo, NOS, etc), and stock classes. If you think you're fast, come show it. If you think you're slow, come confirm it.

Keep checking our website for more information:

It was a Ski-Doo fest last year. Any new AC 800's ready to come run with all that new HP? What about you Yamaha guys and those turbos? Any Polaris to come run and win would shut a lot of people up. Come get some!

I dunno, it just seems over the top. ooooh 560' of mayhem. lol Bring em to the Mountains and run em 3000' above that track :cool: No doubt they rip, but blasting across a lake is different than riding that motha in the BC. Given that, I'll run ya across a powdery lake bed at 10-3. I doubt my mtn sled would hole shot the competition, just based on the A-20 alone..Not a bad drag tack with a couple inches of fluff;) After 50' it's a hookin and a movin. Na, you guys are all "sanctioned" and stuff. j/k Would be fun to run against the "big boys" but I think the game is rigged against free ridin mtn sleds with big azz tracks. Bring em to the deeep and lets get it on :confused:

You couldn't be more wrong. It's 550'.

Anyway, it's a good time and a good event for the club. There are mountain classes. Not sure what the "rigged" comment is about. You could try it then give a true review of it.

Oh, 550'! lol Actually sounds like fun and hope you have a good showing, but the low elevation strip is an issue for a lot of us running any kind of "fast" Mtn. Sled. I don't think it's "rigged" in that way, just that our sleds are set up for high elevation powder riding. My mod -motor and track setup run good above 9000' in powder snow, but things get squirrely much below 8500 and on hardpack. The stock sleds with EFI behave pretty good with elevation changes, but the EFI doesn't have a clue what to do on a mod motor using a fuel controller. I doubt mine could even be tuned to run at 7500' and I'm not gonna try.

I don't know much about organized racing, but seems contrary to have an event at an elevation where the locals don't ride much. The snow and riding are up here above 9K and you'd get a lot more average Joe Mtn. Sleds to run if you held an event up there. I imagine that Mtn. sled drags are not the big draw on your strip anyway, though. I see those drags as spectacles where sleds are set up specifically to compete in those conditions. Motors that are tuned for that elevation and hard/studded tracks that grab on hardpack. A remnant of a by-gone era where sleds were pretty much restricted to hardpack conditions. I'd much prefer to see racing held in the environment our sleds operate in today. Probably not realistic to stage races in 2' of powder, but that's where we measure our sleds nowdays. Bring it above 9K' and I'll flip the A-20 and give them a run on a hard strip. Make the location MC lot at RE ;)

Felker will win again. I'm going riding.

It would be ideal to do it at 9000' but those pesky and annoying USFS peeps would sure try and ruin it. Gotta love the man.:mad:

We've looked into doing this at a higher location in the FS, but FS requires a permit and it is a tedious process to get this. Plus, you are not guaranteed to get the permit.

Lynn's sleds run very well. But he takes the time to set them up for the event (drag racing). His sleds are mostly improved and mod so you can still run against other stock sleds. I think of it more as a chance to beat his sleds. That's bragging rights if you do. I'd like to see more turbo and modded sleds come out.

BTW, we have a dedicated mountain class. So you wouldn't race against a short track (or less than 2" track) machine. Yeah, there are some fast sleds. You hear people talk about all the work they did on their sled and how fast they are. Come to an event like this and show it! You'd be surprised...

Yep, I spose the FS would be tough on this kind of race.

Show who's fastest, best boondocker, highest climber? Seems that's all we do when were out riding together ;) lol

this event is fun it helps support a club and they give a portion to charity we went last year and had a blast seeing alot of guy's we used to race with before give it a try hell ya can ride 7 days a week but there's only a couple of races in the state a year ya might like it :beer;

This a really cool event for the snowmobile club to put on. There is a ton of time and work goes into one of these deals. This is a great move to create some buzz about the club. It's nice having it where people can come out and check it out but don't have to travel a long ways to do it.

This type of event almost has to be held on private property, it would a be a red tape nightmare with the forest service.

If dragracing isen't your thing, fair enough "to each their own". Back in the 90's when Grand Lake held the races every year it was always alot of fun and the races were always packed. We always hauled our Mnt sleds up there and raced on one day and rode the other.

I think having the drag races are a great event. :beer;:beer;

Yea having it on public land is a nightmare I think when they had the races in Grand Lake the ins bond was like 3 mill probably triple that now

No, it can't be true. Everybody always says Lynn's sleds are stock with really good clutching. I know my sled isn't fast. I have it clutched and geared to play in the deep and steep. I hope you guys have a blast and it's a successful event.

His sleds are mostly stock. He doesn't do huge pipe mods that I know of. He does do porting and changes the Y pipe. I think it says a lot about his tuning that he doesn't do huge mods.

I have seen some sleds beat him. One guy brought a AC Sno Pro that ran well against him. I've seen some turbos, triples and others run well also. It's funny to see people that are afraid to lose. I don't plan on winning the 800 stock/improved classes but I will run in them and see how I do (with little mods/tuning).

Lose :eek: who said anything about losing ;) No, I want you to bring the race up a few thousand feet so I can compete:D

Anybody that's running a Mtn. sled that's fast and makes above average power above 9K' is going to have trouble moving down that far in elevation and get his sled tuned to be competative, and for what? a minute worth of dragging. Love to compete, but the season is to short for me. I can barely keep it rippin up high, not gonna mess with that.

I do hope all the various drag events are a big success though. Sounds like a hoot to run in them. I'll be out ripping it up on mine on those weekends. No, I'm not askeered of those Felker Doo's either. I love to drag my sled and welcome any competition above 9K' ;) Not that much to ask, to ride where, well, where everybody rides is it? to the top for ya Bugito!

So what class would M1000 with some goodies fit into?
You will never know till you try. Anything can happen in drag racing. And the first looser never show's up.
