2010 crossfire 800 rail tips just stabbed the track

I am almost positive one of the bolts holding the cross shaft that holds limiter straps to the skid sheared off first and allowed the skid to drop. One side looked sheared clean off and the other had bent the shaft before the bolt broke. The shaft look worn on an angle on the side that i think sheared off. Kind of like where you would blow into a clarinet or recorder wind instrument. (only way I could explain it) It must have been pulling up in between the slider and the thickest part of the rail before it twisted, fell out and let the skid drop.

Let me in on your thoughts. I would bet alot of money on my theory.

hey

Sorry to hear that man. A stabbed track will do alot of damage to a skid, so the damage you mentioned might be part of stabbing. My anti-stab wheels have black marks all over them from coming in contact with track.

Last season, within a couple weeks time I stabbed the track on my ZL, and two buddies stabbed the tracks on their Crossfire and M8. After I stabbed mine, I installed anti-stab wheels. Buddies continue to run without.

When I bought my M8 this year, I asked the dealer if they would cover track stab under warranty, or if I should install the anti-stab wheels. They suggested that it was $100 of very cheap insurance. I opted to let them do it for another $40 while they were doing PDI.

With all the trouble you've been having, I sure hope Northside takes care of you on this one. That's where I bought my ZL. They were good to deal with when I bought, and always good when I called afterwards.

I think they will. When my sled gets put back together we still have that grinding issue to deal with. It has been getting worse and the RPM's are starting to fall off. It might be a crank bearing. It will only hold 7850 RPM vs. 8250+ from before. It's getting really frustrating to drive even though they told me to keep riding it. It's hard on everything else. It ran so good before.

They won't work on it because cat won't pay them diagnosing time.

then they should replace it with a new sled..... weak CAT!!!

The limiter shaft sounds like a good theory. That piece of ducking spit that they put in there in 09 cost me $700 (New track, limiter shaft + Labor) It snapped in half, stuck in the window of my track and ripped the spit out of it. Thanks for that one cat.

????

Ok I am confused is it fixed? When it gets put back together.

It will not run rpms falling off is it still broke?

Stuff happens fix it and move on. This post make no sense.

track tension

Hard to believe the track would stab if dealer had tension set stock. That sucks man.Just wondering why this keeps happening. Is everyone running tracks real loose or what.I like a bit of tension on mine better backshift and no problems yet.Reading this makes me think anti-stab next though...

Destroyer

Many of the topics you start have been complaining about this sled from day 1. If you really have that many issues you need to work WITH your dealer and Cat about getting these resolved. If your dealer is of no help go to another dealer, otherwise your best bet is to call Cat until they get it fixed for you.

It's from a previous post. Sorry... The sled started grinding and vibrating bad under load. That's still not fixed. If you're interested you can search my posts. I now have a track and skid under my sled. The dealership was nice enough to loan me a skid because new rails are B/O into april. Thanks Northside. It is being covered under warranty. And I'm adding and anti stab kit.

UPjohn, it's true that I do come on here and vent, even though I know how I should go about getting my problems resolved. I really don't want to go to another dealer. I just switched from doo to cat because we have a local dealership. I don't want to make them angry by phoning cat directly. But I don't have much of a choice in the matter. I'm just looking for someone with the same symptoms so I can get this resolved. it's easier said than done. I'm scared to dig into it myself because I don't want to void any warranty. I'm going to beg to try a new diamond drive. If that doesn't fix it, it has to be in the motor. I'll post the cause after it's resolved to hopefully help other members.

Thanks

Ok now I have enough info to help I will call you dealer today and visit with them I think I know what the issue is but I will call them first.

So I just got off the phone with his dealer and man it sounds like they have done over and above to help from ripping a new track a skid off a new sled to changing driver. DD over haul and just about every thing I could think of. We did talk about checking the secondary out a bit farther but man make sure give them a big thanks because they are taking care of you.
