2010 800's

hello,

I am a ski doo guy looking to jump ship and know nothing about polaris motors. I am looking at a 2010 800 assualt with 600 miles on it, said it had updates done. What are these updates? Is this motor relaible? whats the history on the polaris 800's?

thanks guys, I figured it would be best to go to the source rather then try to get info out a dealer.

I drove an 09 Assault, and I really enjoyed it. The motor ran fine, and the track wasn't too long or too short. I'd say if you keep it stock and don't beat on it you shouldn't have many problems with the Assault. The Polaris 800 has never been completely reliable, but is is reliable to a point. There's always a chance for problems, but if you take care of it, it will take care of you. Enough said. Jack.

I can't help but tell you that my D9 is for sale. But let me tell you more. My brother has the Assault and it's a cool sled. Great for hucking and spring riding. But it really struggles in the deep. So I took a different approach and made my Dragon a little more Assault like without loosing the mountain riding ability. I put the 155" Camo Extreme track on with Fox Float Evol R shocks and Holz front end. Added Better Boards, Power Commander V and a ripping high compression head to round it out. Better than the Assault in MY opinion.

Now that I gave you my sales speech I can answer your question. ;) The updates were the way Polaris fixed the problem in 08-09 where sleds were lean in the midrange and had burn downs. This happened because they were fighting EPA standards and were trying to meet the standard for fuel efficiency. So after the issues (my sled never burned down) they gave every 800 a free update (except 2010 which came with them). This was new rings (dual instead of single), pistons and head along with a new map. Now the map was too sloppy and rich in spots so the sleds didn't get good power. Most people bought the PCV (my sled has that!) and most people had a ripping 800's.

Now...about that 2009 D8 I have!

There was a poll out earlier and a full 1/3 of the 800's had serious motor issues by 1,000 miles. I think you'll have better chances of having a trouble free sled by going to a '11.

sinse its a 2010 it will have the updates done from the factory. the updates just involved some new parts to the engine.

sounds like trouble (08-10) I think if I jump ship I will go with a 2011' and hope for the best. I was wondering why there was so many 08-10 polaris 800's on craigslist for cheap.

That 2010 with 550 miles was only 7800, seemed a little cheap.

Because the market sucks and everyone wants the new iron.

Do know that the 600s and 700s have been just about bullet proof over recent years (while the 800 has arguably been a lot of trouble). A D7 may be the best sled on the market with consideration of cost, reliability, and ridability. I love the power and ride of my stock 07 600 and I came off an non-stock 800.

Let's bring this back to the top. I am lookig at '10 with a pump gas BD. Friends that have 08 and 09's say the issues have been resolved. Any truth to that?

I have a 09 Assault. I had no issues before and after the update at elevation. The machine runs spot on for its intended use. It is not a deep powder sled or a trail machine. The suspension is set up for the extreme and very few us including me need it. If this is the set up your looking for you should be very happy without paying the premium for a new machine. JMO

BUY IT 2010 ARE GREAT.
HELL THE 09 ARE GREAT TO I HAVE HAD 1 09 ASSAULT 1 2010 ASSAULT AND A 10 DRAGON THEY ALL HAD THE UPDATE DONE BEFORE I RODE ANY OF THEM THY ALL RUN GREAT NEVER HAD A PROBLEM ON ANY SLED
09 1430 MILES
2010 670 ASSAULT
2010 DRAGON 740

i jumped ship from ski-doo to go to a new polaris 09 Dragon 800 hold over. It has all the updates done and with the PCV and a little clutching it rips! I couldnt go 2 rides on my ski-doo without some kind of problem so i finally said F it. I am very satisfied with my dragon so far.

thats my 2 cents

Evan

I have really wondered about selling my 800 to get a 700. It's just been too good a motor for Polaris for a long time now. The 600's have the same great reputation as the 7's but I am always wondering if I will wish I had the power of a bigger sled.
