2010 550 trail touring engine failure

I own a 2010 550N trail touring international edition, cylinder and piston failed on clutch side ,dealer repair under the extended warranty I bought when I bought machine in 2010 thank god 3000 dollars repair no cost to me these engine fixes do not fix problems, the piston was cracked and hole burned through side ,they did something to increase oil to engine, only 1282 miles on machine have not use since only ever used on groomed trails can any one give me more information as this machine had all mods done told at time I buy all engine problems fixed ,I don't think so.

The pto seal may have gotten hard or bad in some way and it was sucking air..thats my guess!

If a carburetor boot was not fit into the airbox properly, that may cause a leaning out and burning up.

You let air in between the carb and the engine. Your carb doesn't know it needs to add more fuel so you have an incorrect air fuel mixture to the lean side of the scale.

Volcano Buster if you are answering my question I understand what you are saying, but the comment was "the carb not fully in the air box". The carb not in the Intake Boot between the cylinder and carb makes sense, but just curious on the carb to airbox? That would be no different than a person removing the airbox and putting pods on the carbs.

Beats me.

I know I have read too many stories of the 550's burning down to not want to buy one for my kids to ride.

We own a 2013 & 2014 550 with no problems. I think Polaris got the problem fixed, or a sure hope they did.

Our 2013 is a IQ shift with a 136 track. The 2014 is an Indy with a 144 track. I guess we'll see as the miles accumulate. I know I've read that Polaris got the problems fixed but I don't recall where it was.
