2009 with updates running good but....

Have had out for about 4 rides and have been noticing that the sled wants to load up a bit in the initial throttle (take off) area. Anyone else notice this?

We were running the sleds fairly hard in some wet and heavy on the road the other day and I had this "load up" condition, then the check engine light came on and it went in to limp mode. I shut it off for a while and let it cool and never had the problem again, but I never saw the water temp go over 145. This sound right?

This sled has always run flawless, this was the first time a warning light has ever come on! Might be because I had Jr. in front of me and I was on and off the throttle the whole time:face-icon-small-hap, but I just wanted to see if anyone else is having these problems..

About the 09 reflash 2010 cfi mapping and the engine light coming on or sled running weird when it thinks it's hot
Question: What features do the new 2010 ECU calibration maps provide?
Answer: The Polaris Powertrain department has spent countless hours refining every aspect of the calibration maps in
order to provide the most stable combustion, dependable operation, and consistent performance your customers demand.
The Detonation Elimination System (DET) has been re-calibrated to be more aggressive in not only detecting detonation,
but alerting the operator when detonation is occurring. If an excessive detonation condition is detected, the check engine
light will illuminate notifying the operator of an excessive detonation condition. In this mode the ECU is actively adjusting
ignition timing and fuel levels to reduce detonation. If the level of detonation subsides, the ECU will return the ignition
timing and fuel levels to normal operating levels and the check engine light will turn off.
If the detonation condition is severe and cannot be controlled by normal means, the ECU will flash the check engine light
and limit the maximum engine speed to 6,000 RPM to prevent engine damage. The engine will remain in this mode until
the operator turns off and restarts the engine.

Update

I had the same issue with the Sled going into Limp Mode (3 times) this weekend . I checked the Temp & it was around 128 . Right after check engine light came on, I turned off sled & then restarted it went right back to Normal (full Power) I plan on calling the Dealer today and talk with them.

Ethanol wires have anything to do with this if plugged in or not and the opposite type of fuel is used?? Just thinking of an easy reason. Mine is running perfectly after about 140 miles. Good luck with yours.

Thanks for the input guy's!

I have the non-ethanol set up installed... I am running good fuel with pipe and reeds...

I'd have to say mines running great as well. But I do have a question for you guys. Whats your gas mileage look'n like? At just over 50mi my gauge shows about half a tank.

This might help...just got mine back from the dealer today and was looking and noticed that my ethonol wires were unplugged. I called the dealer and he told me that becuase the DET sensor is shutting down the engine more aggressively, they have unplugged the wires. I guess the DET sensor is really sensitive and it will go into limp mode if the fuel you are running is not exactly right. So, he told me to run premium fuel, with the ethonol wires UNPLUGGED. Hope this helps!

Dub id try running the stock pipe to see if the problem goes away assuming your wires are UNPLUGGED.

Also what elevation you running at? And what silencer you running with the pipe?

Dealers are being told by Polaris to leave the wires in "ethanol" configuration as a default because the fuel mapping will be richer and be "safer" in the event the fuel you get has questionable quality and ethanol content. There are places where you can't get anything but fuel with ethanol, but other places where you can. Get a tank of fuel with ethanol with the wires in "non-ethanol" configuration, the DET may not be able to prevent engine damage. Remember that you don't NEED to have detonation present to squeak a piston, especially now that the pistons are more "correctly sized" for the bore after the update. As far as the initial comment about the engine trying to "load up" on take-off, I'm going to assume you're running at altitude? If so, that is probably a side-effect of the updated head having somewhat less compression than the original did, along with a different dome profile. A higher compression motor will be more "tolerant" of richer fuel calibration.

09 D8 first ride of season no updates sled ran great. Got updates done now second ride out hard to start also running way rich on take off running around 7500-8500 elev and no ethonal fuel sold in area.

Last year, before any reflash, I would see 8500 rpm on the flat and around 8200 on a pull.
First ride with the update all I got on the flat was 8200 and about 7900 on a pull. The ethanol wires are disconnected.
There has been no other tuning done to the engine or clutching between this year and last.
I hope these numbers get better with a few more hours on the new pistons...

Whether you think you have good fuel or not, the DET is sensing something and more than likely causing this. Try the ethenol setting with your pipe and see if it goes away.

update=detune

I think I want the two ring pistons but they can keep thedamn head and reflash. My 08 runs great with no update and a power addiction low comp head. I was told that the 2010 update kills the power alot more than they are lettin' on. I know that dynotech says they only lost 4 HP and you get it back with slp pipe but everything is different in deep snow at altitude. my 2 cents.:o:beer;:(?

I have an 08 that had the bottom of cylinder skirt break off at 750miles, got the 09 rebuild and reflash and then the 2010 update recently. I will say the 09 sucked compared to the original 08 motor with the exact same setup, obviously, and the 2010 is hands down more powerful than the 08. I loved the original motor and didn't have problem 1 with it till it just broke, but with around 140 miles on the update I am more than happy with the power! I hope everyone has the same experience and I hope this one lasts!! I say do the whole package then add your go fast parts after a few rides if you feel it isn't up to snuff. Good luck!

Also just pulled the plugs and they are a better color of tan than they have ever been!

same with me..it seems to run strong but not the full rpms. slp told me 8200 for the pipe..i still not gone through the 1st full tank. but i hope it comes up a few 100 rpms

I pulled 8450 last ride on the 2010 update! I was worried I might need to reclutch for more power! What's going on here?? Does Carl's do a "better" update or what? I'm very happy with the new motor.
