2009 M8

I have a buddy that I'm going with to look at a 2009 M8 Sno Pro after he's off work tomorrow. He's interested in it. The owner says it has 2500 miles and he's only selling it because he broke his back.

It comes with a D&D y-pipe and D&D stinger can. No pipe, I don't think.
Boss seat (the crappy kind, I'm pretty sure)
A decal kit, a new clutch.

Anyway. The guy is asking 5500$ (which is lower than most other sleds around that age up here). I'm wondering what we should keep our eye out for. I've only known 2 M-series that well, that was my '05 M7 and my Dad's '08 M8 and both of them never skipped a beat, so I don't really know what to look for as far as damage goes, where to look for cracks in the bulkhead or anything.

If any of you have any tips on what to look out for, I'd greatly appreciate it.

On any used M8 I would expect to find:

1. Bulkhead Cracks by steering post, and down both sides of the front heat exchanger.
2. Bad Primary Clutch / Primary Clutch rollers
3. Mag, and front motormounts torn
4. Secondary bushing is shot
5. Powervalve cables need to be replaces.

That about covers the primary concerns I would have looking at a used M8. If any of those parts are still good, consider yourself lucky but if he wants the sled running up to full potential, these are all important areas to keep up to snuff, and are common issues that exist on any M sleds I have been around.

Huh. My M7 never had any of those issues.

Dad's M8 only had 1500KMs when he sold it, so, it was still in good condition.

I'll keep an eye out for the cracks. It has new clutches, apparently so I think we're okay there. How can I check if the motor mounts are okay?

Also, what would you consider deal breakers?

ask the owner if he did the bearing update too. If not you might as well rip that case apart and put a new bearing in it. As for bad motor mounts you will be able to see if the rubber is cracked and falling apart. You will really only be able to see the mag side mount easily so if that one is ripped you can bet the others are too.

Fix the DD bearing and brace up the bulkhead it will be an awesome sled.

Id say deal breaker would be bent bulkhead, low compression motor etc. The rest of this stuff is pretty easy to fix. Id say if you find any problems with it talk him down. I bought an 09 sp with 1000 miles for 6600. and I got a bunch of stuff with it. I didn't have to do a thing to mine.

I agree with everything you guys have said but $5500 for an 09' M8 with 2500miles seems to be a little high. I bough my 09' M8 for $6400 with 316 miles on it! I would beat him down a little.

Up here thats pretty low. Theres a 2007 Ski-Doo Rev 800 with 2800 miles on it here for 6200$.

Regardless, we are going to try and beat him down a bit.

I disagree. I think $5, 500 is a great deal for a great sled. I wouldn't sell mine with over 3, 000 mi. For less than $6, 500.

Look at all the A-Arm attachment points for cracks or bends also. Just another bulkhead problem.

Alright. I don't know. 5500$ seems like a decent price to me.

Theres another 2009 M8 on there for 6500$. But with lots of extras.

$5500 Canadian right? Doesn't sound too bad to me....

I just paid $5500 american for a 2010 Crossfire 8. With cover and a few other misc accessories. No mod's.

Well now he's looking at a 2008 M1000 for the same price. Thoughts? What to look for?

And DD big time, those are mechanical reverse and that alone can cause a few issues. 09 and up is going to have the powerclaw if he's interested in that. Best of luck.. should be able to get an 08 m1 for 5k ish.

Have you tried looking around Alberta? There has been a ton of deals i have found down that way, right to you. Your prices are low compared to where i am at, 03-04-05 F7s are still holding at $4-5000 grand!! CND. I scored a CF 600 last season for $1000, need a one cylinder and a rear cooler. Got $3000 into it and now its a 800 with 170+hp.
