2009 m8 ?

Went out for a little ride today and had a friend follow me and I would crack it from time to time and he said it seems to be running rich, also I went off the trail into some powder and cracked it and I looked back to see a big cloud of blue smoke, only mods are y-pipe and can. Also maybe its just me but doesn't seem to have the throttle response it did before, Probly all normal but since its under warrenty thought i'd ask, also how much oil do they normaly use, burnt about 1/3-1/4 of a tank and used about 1/2 a litre of oil(just a guess). Just curious is all, thanks

Mine has a healthy appetite also. Think it just the way AC has these M8 set up. I threw a gauge in the fuel line and it runs at 45-47psi, which is fairly normal from what I hear. I'm guessing that these are almost running at 20:1 mix, at $50 a jug it can get expensive. I got the BDX oil delete kit, I'm just pondering when to put it on. (warranty is a nice thing to have)

Like M7 said the first tank of gas should be a mix. It does smoke a lot for a while. The fuel/oil mixture on mine is about 25 to 1 which is way too rich but Cat sets them up that way so they wont get a burn down (warranty). I have over 500 miles on mine now and it will still smoke some if you are dinking around thru the trees but it has lossened up a lot and runs smoother overall.

I need to lean out the oiler. Seems strange to me that Cat sells oil that is supposed to be ran at 50 to 1 then sets their sleds up at 20 to 1. WTF?

just my take on things, i've never seen a sled break from too much oil... i've seen PLENTY break from no enough...

oil is cheaper than metal, a little extra oil to me is seriously not a thing i'd consider even messing with... imho, 32-40:1 is a lean as i'd ever go on my oil pump

True, i'm just fairly new to these sleds and was just curious, I should have mentioned it has 350 miles on it so not the first tank haha. Also whats the little tube for that comes off the ECU, I noticed it is just kinda flopping around loose under my hood? Thanks for the help guys!

The little tube is for the altimeter / barometric pressure (how the ECU knows what altitude temp your running at so it can adjust the Air fuel mixture.)

Should be connected or you may run rich or lean depending on what elevation or temp your at.

My 09 uses a ton of oil at times as well. There was a post on here awhile ago that stated that some had oil pump arms that were sticking half open. Mine sticks about 1/2 the time. I notice my sled will load up when it sticks and it gets a little boggy. Ive been able to cure it from time to time by blipping the throttle.

I have been kinda eyeballing my oil useage on the M8 and it seems to be quite a bit less than my M7. Also, if you are trail riding around and takign it easy they power valves are closed and I have noticed on M7s and M8s that when you go over (I believe 7000 rpm) the valves open and if you have been putting around a lot of crappy looking oily nasty stuff can blow out.

It should be connected only to the ECU, correct?

1 bad pump here

well, my 09 m8 just went in for a new oil pump.
380mi and no complaints until it stopped using oil..
last ride used 6oz in 2.5 gallons, caught it at lunch....immediately added oil to the tank and took it to the dealer.....pump was stuck 3/4 open but was hardly sending any oil and they found a bubble in the line too.....now waiting on a pump

i plan to check the jugs with the dealer when the sled is ready...:(

With my new sled, came a copy of the "set up check list" that "the dealer" is supposed to go through when setting up a new sled. I'm sure most dealers don't actually use the check list, but one of the items on the list is to check that the oil pump is set up properly and adjust if necessary. So if your sled is burning more oil than it should because your oil pump is out of adjustment, imho this is your dealers responsibility not AC's. I would guess that AC does send them out of the factory on the rich side for the simple fact that some dealers don't pay as much attention to detail as they should. I'm sure we have all ran into that situation once or twice.

I have been told by a few that the Y-pipe works on flat out top end, but you loose responsiveness and power down low and mid range! hense it running rich!
I run a 15hp RKT kit (head) and a SLP can only! the sled flat out rocks for a 800! no controller!
I asked about running a Y pipe with this setup, kelsey at RKT said sure you can run it, but you will lose HP.
try putting our stock y - pipe back on and see if its any different.

Is this different for the 1000s. Stock mine ran so rich at mid throttle between 6000 and 6800 that it sounded like it had a choke full on, and 10 jets to big, I put a y pipe on it and it cleaned it up fairly well, just a little burple once in a while, Though it might be a little rich way down on bottom end when im just putting around.

I'll keep an eye on it but I don't want to take the Y-pipe off, like how it sounds haha

The Y-pipe made the sled louder? Hmmmm, I might have to look into getting one.:D I noticed my BDX powervalve inserts made it louder. Those combined with the Jaws can and the BDX intake, she screams now.
