2009 Dragon Chassis strip - Rivet ??

Hello, I am stripping a my 2009 800 Dragon down to the chassis to have it powder coated. MY Question is the "rivets". To buy separately thru Polaris is spendy.

1. Has anyone else here stripped down their sled to the chassis and if so did you buy bulk Rivets?

2. I assume all are stainless steel....I would like black rivets.

3. Any tips on putting everything back together.

4. Anyone know the Polaris part number for the 4 rivets that hold the steering bracket / loop to the two vertical pieces of the chassis.

The SS rivets are tough to get off. I'm buying a couple cobalt drill bits tomorrow and a few top notch dermal grinding wheels.

As for the powder coating. Normally would not go thru the trouble. But I bought this sled with a blown motor (Motor is at Indy Dan's) and the track was bad so with all that removed......the rest is a short trip.

I have been powder coating my own parts for a few yrs now..I've done it all

I have looked everywhere for black rivots, they only come in aluminum heads..they work great for accessory components but not for bulkhead/strength...

The only way u will get black head rivots is to have each one coated..I've done that too and its a major pain..but ur call..

I buy my steel head/steel nail rivots from Fasenal and/or Ace Hardware..I also use backing washers for added strength and fitment

This is the ONLY place ive been buying my aluminum rivots from..his come in all kinds of colors..he doesn't sell steel FYI

Save herself the trouble as well and get a pneumatic rivot gun..I have the one from harbor freight ($35) and did well over 1000 rivots and still a champ.

I have one of the pneumatic rivet gun's.....I noticed many of Polaris's rivets are black....are they stainless steel?

Are you talking about the rivets for the body work or the tunnel?

I don't remember seeing any black rivets on the tunnel. Most of the tunnel rivets are what I call "Polaris gold" rivets. They are tough as nails. I think Fastenal has a equivalent.

The large black rivets for the body work. I hate to break it to you, but those are the only ones that I have found that hold color. I have tried a bunch of different variations of black. Powder coated... from different manufacturers, but it seems like if you want the color to hold, the Polaris hold up the best.

For strength reasons I just decided to use Polaris rivets.

Good call, Polaris had the good Black High Strength Steel Chassis Rivets back in the late '90's early 2000's when a lot of their tunnels were painted black. They should still be available if you can locate the part number. I used to have bags of them but my inventory has been depleted so I no longer have the #.

Good Luck!
