2008 Summit XP Mods

I am looking to do some work on my exhaust and maybe a couple other things to lighten it up and gain some power. I had a ski doo rep tell me they didnt like puting new cans on because they saw power losses.Does anyone have any suggestions on what works best?

not listening to the skidoo reps, for one. Slp has a y-manifold, pipe, and silencer can all ceramic coated and all lighter then stock that will save you pounds and give you performance above the factory set up. some jetting and clutch adjusting to your weight and riding style will help. Search other forums or the website to find a dealer

What new exhaust setup is better the HPS or SLP? I've been looking into the full SLP set up. As far as a new clutch set up goes whats the best setup for high altitude and big climbs?

I just recieved and installed a cpi can on my 09 800 xp. I would have to say this is the best sounding can I have heard yet. Power? They claim a small gain, but I did notice a big difference in throttle response. Also I weighed both cans, stock and cpi, and they were right on with thier claimed 10 lbs. weight savings. Which in my eyes is as good as hp gain. Don't know how the sled will run due to the "No snow yet" factor. But it sounds way good on a stand!

Yes . . . at 15.4 lbs. the stock can has to go! I have the HPS on mine and it also drops 10lbs.

Any other suggestions on how to boost the HP?

Power valve mods perhaps? The modded cats are kicking our A$$ power wise. we need to come up with some good engine mods.

I have dyno port bug core can on my 08 and there is no power loss that I could tell. my can is very loud.

I am running BMP Y-pipe, head and MBRP can. 20 tooth primary gear and the correct clutching. :)

At the risk of being ridiculed, I have made a steering mod. I have found that the steering is quite heavy for such a light machine. This is because the rider normally stands ahead of the front skid shock. In addition the motor and everthing else forward sits with all the weight on the front ski's. This mod consists of a light weight, yet strong, polished aluminum angle bracket that is bolted on and sits square and tight to the back of the ski legs. The result is reduced steering effort by 15%-20%. The accepted downfall is that you reduce the turning radius by the same percentage. I think the comprimise is worth it and expect it will still turn better than any other brand out there. I have yet to get it on the snow to try out. The reduced effort is calculated from the change in radius from the pivot point. The other way would be to change to wider bars but I kinda like what I have.

I might be alone on this one?:D

Did you drill and tap the top of that angle? Just thinking out loud but that seems like a weak point? but that's only in the picture maybe not! let us know!?

Yes, drilled and taped through, They are about quite thick though, and I expect stonger than the tie rods push'n and pull'n them. At this point I am just tryng the concept and seeing how it feels. If they work well I may redesign. Had to go back and up though so as to clear the little brackets on the arms that were for the torsion bar.
