2008 800 XP Recalls & Issues

The recalls that I have heard of and that I am making sure are done before my 1st year warranty runs out are as follows:

1) NEW DRIVESHAFT INSTALLED I have heard that Skidoo is saying they are no longer responsible for anyone driving their sleds with the B.O Driveshafts. The trouble is, the waiting list is up to 3 months long for getting a new Driveshaft. Wouldn't be much fun having a track lock up at 60 mph on a bad turn or being helicoptered out of a big bowl with a jammed up track.

2) RIVETS on the Heat Exchanger need replacing , existing ones are too big and are tearing up tracks.

3)OIL RESEVOIR, if you have the threads that only go around 1/2way then you will have chronic leaking cap problems. The only proper fix I know of is getting a new Oil Resevoir with the 360degree threads and a new cap installed. Don't let them just put a new cap on , it won't last.

4) ECM, needs to be remapped which will increase voltage to the Fuel Guage & Oil Guage Senders, both of which have been giving grief with erratic/inconsistent readings.

5) ALTIMETER may need recalibration, compare it to a friends unit or a good GPS.

6) UPGRADED BELT along with Clutch Realignment.

7) NEW HANDWARMERS are required, the originals will fail.

8) NEW 19 TOOTH DRIVER is required to ease the strain on the belt and provides better all around performance.

9) REAR SHOCK to be checked for proper pressure, min 300lbs

10)SECURE WIRING behind exhaust to prevent premature wear.

11) FUSE HOLDER BY THE AIR BOX has weak springs which can result in loss of continuity to fuel gauge sender unit which will show improper fuel levels, usually low when it isn't.

12) Hope there isn't a #12? but if there is please let us all know cause now is the time to get er all fixed up.

Get these items dealt with and your sled will be up to par with the new 09's.

Let it snow , Let it snow, Let it snowwwwwwwww.

Sorry but you have a few details off

1. its the bumper bolts not heat exchanger rivits, the bumper bolts need changed to a rounded head instead of a hex head.

2. the altimeter cannot be "recalibrated" it is changed when the guage is flashed to fix the fuel guage, and what they did was made it less sensitive it will now read every 500 ft instead of every 25 ft.

3. 19 tooth drivers? holy crap those would be friggin huge.....

4. Only X package shocks can be checked for pressure. NON-X package sleds have non rebuildable shocks and there is no way to check gass pressure.

5. The fuel sending unit fuse problem is corrosion in the fuse holder, after the fuel tank recall all tanks are pressure tested in water before they are installed and those fuse holders are not water proof, so as a result they are corroding.

There is a number 12 tho. check the coolant hose behind the airbox, it may be rubbing on the airbox. there is a T fitting with two larger lines and a smaller line, the fitting may be turned wrong and causing the smaller line to hit the air box. The air box will wear through the coolant line causing a leak.

A couple more issues are the wires under the fuel tank to the rear lights. They are suppose to take the wrap out of the wires. Also the chain case has had some issues with the bolts stripping out. I saw this in the skidoo tech tips book. I think there are a few more but i cant think of them right now. Ill get back to you..

Mine has a 19t TOP SPROCKET now but I think it is too low. I believe it come with a
21t. Seems like a big jump to me. Correct about the drivers though. Got a letter in the mail saying to stop using my sled immediatly. I was lucky to have my shaft replaced last month. Ride it anyways and if it breaks make it sound like it happened last ride of the season.

there was a little red wire that was shorting out that need to be relocated as well, can't remember at the time where the heck it was or what it did, maybe someone here knows but i know mine got changed

i feel kind of bad for all the people with 08s no wonder the biggest thing to buying a ski doo is the dealer hope 09 does not have any issues.

Funny, Xp is the best sled I have ever owned or ridden. New style belt fixed the only issue I had.

Just waiting for more snow and I am going to ride the hell out of it again this year.

Chubbydog "Was it 500' or 50' on the altimeter? 500' would be pretty worthless IMO! "

I checked one today after the update and I was wrong. They read every 200 ft not 500 ft. sorry for the missinformation

Every 200 ft should be good enough for its intended purpose

# 14

Kill switch get filled (on the inside) with snow when riding in the deep, causing the Kill switch to be non-operative. I called BRP last season about it being a safety issue ...the guy I spoke with was a jerk, asked me what I wanted him to do about it. I told him it should be a safety recall.

Guess what, 09 will be the same. I think I will be doing the full choke to kill the engine vice pulling the DESS cord this year.

The "Y Pipe" fix is on you can do yourself. I went to www.mcmaster.com and clicked on fasteners, washers, wedgelock and ordered a set of 1/4" washers in zinc plated to put under the allen bolt heads on my Y-Pipe. It is much easier to do if you use a ball end allen wrench due to the angle required to get under the pipe. This fix has lasted 2 seasons on an 06 800 Summit with the bolts staying tight and no drama. Good luck
