2005 mountain viper 700 or 2002 rmk 800

both sleds have a 144 but me and my cousin have been arguing whos sled would be better in every condition. both sleds are stock as far as the motor goes soo if you guys have any answeres to whos will be beter in hill climbin, powder, trail etc. it would be awsome thanks

The Viper will get spanked everywhere except the trail ride home with its tail between it's legs. They are a nice trail sled though. That is stock vs stock. The Viper with alot of mods can be made into a decent mtn sled, but not stock.

My buddy and I have the same debate all the time hopefully next year we will find out the answer, with his Yamaha at the bottom and my RMK on top!

if you put triple pipes on the 700 i would take that.

Aset of tripples, clutch work, throw the stock track away as well as the transfer rods and install the strap kit instead. Now that Viper will run with most any 800 and handle well too. but stock...that is a different story.

If you put the slps on the viper and use a cat yellow or green in the sec, and 51 helix you will SSMMOOKKEE the 800's. Even with them done up..never had any 800 with pipes can headwork even come close to my viper. Change the track to a camo extreme 156x16x2.5 gut the airbox and make sure you are only drawing in fresh air, and saybye bye to ANY 800,900 poos and 999 thundercats. I did that for 5 years GREAT sled.................with the right setup The last pic is in the airport. The skidoo( aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaALL lightened up) and the poo 159 could not get out. Viper made it out first crack, and the line on the right to boot.

Ride the Viper all day, then tow home the Poo with a bad crank. Seriously though the Polaris is alot better Mtn sled stock vs. stock. Viper wins hands down in reliability. Like the others said some pipes and a few other mods the Viper will hold it's own and get you back to the truck everytime.

you can use the viper to carry gas for the Pol, when the pol sucked through 11gallons that viper will still have 9gallons left. if they are both 144's they will be close to the same performance, sure the pol will have a bit more power and weigh less, but the viper will last longer.

The rmk tunnels crack at four places. You need to reinforce those cracks before they wreck the tunnel. The two in the back are hidden under the plastic and occur at the extreme rear end of the riveted on siderails. The two at the front occur from impacts where the trailing arms were damaged. They are visible from below. They can be reinforced with some 3/4" x 3/4" x 1/8" aluminum angles that you use lock nutted bolts into the tunnel on each side of the crack. This angle then takes the impact force from future crashes and stabilizes the existing crack. If the tunnel is already wrecked, then your choice has been made for you.
