2005 2500LT Quad Cab Duramax

Found a mint one in red with matching canopy with 54k miles on it for an asking price of $34k. What do you guys think? Seems a little high?

With the issues I have been having with the run ability of that engine I would say that is $34,000 too much. I'd give you mine and I still owe on it.

When it runs, it runs well, but with no rhyme or reason it will shut off one bank of injectors and runs / sounds like a power stroke or a cummins ( the clatter that the duramax is known not to have).

That is likely a fine truck, but thought I'd share my 2 cents.

That's not good. I had an '04 with no problems except the pump rub issue. It was only an extended cab though and I need a true 4 door for when the family goes along.

Thanks for the reply!

The '04.5-'05 are a different engine series. I hear the '06 is the one to have. Pre-emissions and they had fixed the injector issues of the first engine series, and the electrical gremlins of the second ('04.5-'05) series.

Options?

Cloth?
Leather?
Sun?
How are the tires?
Maintenance records?

Either way that price is pretty high. Retail fully loaded is about $28,000
Even if you do a double add for the miles ($2850) you are at $31,000

I'd offer $30k max assuming it is an LT with leather, pretty loaded up and in clean shape. Although I'm not sure they will drop $4k off. But if they are trying to trade it, they are going to be offered probably around $22k-$24k. (just a rough ballpark number assuming it is in clean condition)

$34k is retardedly high for that truck. It's a great truck but you can get low mile LBZ Dmax crew cabs or 5.9 Mega cabs for the same or less. Both of which are overpriced because they're considered the holy grail of diesels before the emissions cops took over.
The seller is dreaming.
If by quad cab you mean ext cab then the seller is even more off the mark.
Mid to high 20s if its cherry.

It is leather and a crew cab(4 full doors). Fully loaded. Tires are good. Must have been a trade as it is at a chev dealer. I thought that was a little much. 27k and I might be interested.....

Seams real high to me. I bought my 06 LBZ crew cab in December 2010 for $25,500. It had 59,000 on it at the time. Granted it doesn't have leather but it's a LBZ and that was almost three years ago. It was from an individual and not a stealer too.

'08's & '09's aren't pre-emissions era pickups. If it was an '06 or '07 Classic, I would say it's worth that and the guy knows it. In this case, he may just be starting high to hit that $28k-$29k mark, which, in today's truck market, with emissions controls and aftermarket companies being scrutinized, the truck is totally worth. 40k-70k mile diesels from '04 to early '07 seem to be the hottest trucks on the market. Sure, you can go buy new pickups for a little more money than these may be advertised, but it's a seller's market. If more people want what you've got than what the dealer's got, used prices on trucks like these will stay high. It's easy to buy a new truck and get average/poor mileage. It's hard to find close to new, 10 year old diesels, have lots of power, nice looks and great mileage. If you're serious about buying a new (to you) diesel, haggle with this guy a little, because I'm sure you'd love the thing. I took the easy route and bought a new truck. I kick myself every time I find a low-mileage '05 to '07 Chevy, GMC or Dodge......The longer you wait, the less opportunity you'll have to own one in that condition.

Totally agree but, It's an 05 lly. Got the 5 speed. It's detuned. If it was a 06 or 07 lbz it would be worth doing some dealing. If you plan on doing any udgrades, Might as well just get a 08 or 09 and put EFI live on it. Pretty sure I was told once that the EPA cant touch the tuners because they don't advertise DPF delete and its a New Zealand company or something. Just what I've learned on the GM's.

sounds like the injector harness thing (ice pick fix)

yes that is way to much for an 05, i bought my 07 classic 100k miles loaded leather sunroof, you name it for 22600 (i had to do shocks and some other minor things)
but it has been rock solid otherwise

I did that shortly after buying the truck, and carry it in the glovebox. The first time it bought me about 2 years of trouble free running. I recently re-did it as well as adding some Stabilitant 22 to each connection and it did not make a difference. I should have a code reader later today. Sucks living in bush Alaska with the nearest reputable shop 300 plus miles away. Electrical is not my fortay.

you could try the "repair" from the dealer which is essentially new connectors with longer leads. also, don't know if your aware or not but the lly are known for the wire harness rubbing through on the ficm bracket and causing similar issues. might be worth looking into, the fix is to repair any chafed wires then insulate with a piece of heater hose or something to that nature.

Exactly, once it is "fixed" you will not have the problem again. Several years ago we had a very long drive coming home from out west when ours started doing that but we made it home. Been trouble free ever since.

Thank you, the FICM had been addressed before I purchased the truck, although I did untapped the entire harness and re-verify there was no additional chaffing. As it turns out, after getting a scan tool, it was injector 8, and most threads / hits on the web label the duramax cylinder order incorrectly! Some even my trained / licensed service techs. The order is not the same as the gas V8's as commonly depicted. So for nearly a week I was working on the wrong injector and getting nowhere. I finally found a post that had the cylinders ordered correctly, ice picked the correct connector, gave it some stabilitant and cleared the codes. All is well again, thank you to those thoughtful enough to offer assistance. My biggest complaint is all the misinformation posted on the web, now that the truck is fine again. Thanks to all and sorry for the derail.
