2004 king cat newb questions

I'm looking at buying a 2004 king cat 900 with 162" track.

It has about 3000 miles on it. I was wondering if that is a lot if the sled has been taken care of...how long the engines typically lasy on these bad boys, and if there are any other issues with these sleds I should be concerned with. Are they pretty reliable? Thank you for your help. :beer;

Some of the 900's had crank issues but overall they were a really good sled. I would say it wouldn't hurt to put new pistons in it if its at 3000 miles.

the 900 is one of the most bullet proof motors out there. If the sled is in good condition and has been left somewhat stock, 3,000 miles is no big deal. Pistons and rings would be cheap insurance and may save you some money down the road if you were too lose one at 7400 rpm. You will most likely need to do some overhaul work on the clutches unless the current owner has all ready taken care of them. The 900 motor is pretty hard on the clutches....otherwise pretty rugged sled overall.

One of the best, most reliable, high torque, hard hitting motors ever produced. PERIOD

I have about 3000 miles on mine and had to do a top end on it last season, but that wasn't a big deal. Be sure to go with cat (suzuki) pistons, so they are cast instead of forged. (less likely to have a cold siezure)

I have never heard of the crank problems associated with this motor, maybe he was refering to the Poli 900....

Like Heavysledz said I would recomend overhauling the clutches every season. Plus that would give you a chance to play with the setup

Great Sled
