Never ridd'n a cat is this a decent sled? My buddy has one and is trying to trade me for finishing his basement is it worth it? 2003 Arctic Cat 900 1M

depends on how much work his basement needs! these sleds are selling for around 3k in good shape. king cats are worth a little more. these are still good sleds, the cat 900 motor is awesome, but the chassis is dated. high rise boss seat and taller bars are a must.

He needs about 6k in work done at least thats what he was quoted so I am giving him a buddy discount and he is giving me this and his trailer.??? He says he just rebuilt the top end last year it has risers but a stock seat. I ride an 02 doo right now how would it compare to that?

I have had my cousins 2 cats for the last year. One is a 900 2003 and the other is a 2004 with efi. There is a world of differnce in the 2 I loved the 04 900 efi. I found the 03 wasn't as good as handling and the motor wasn't as strong, even when the 03 had twin pipes. I found the 03 very hard to steer compared to the 04.
I'd stick with your doo.. Unless you can get an efi cat. Good luck. Let me know what you do.

Interesting, the chassis didn't change from '03 to '04. I have had both and I would say the '03 ran harder. Just put on an SLP single and reeds and your good to go!!

isitworthit?

Are your getting a good deal? I dont know! are you gettiing a good sled? Yes! The 1m's are good sleds, strong, and reliable! I have a 02 800 skidoo and a 900 both. I love my 900! LEAPS AND BOUNDS, better than my 02 skidoo! I need to buy a new sled, I ride a lot and all of it in the mountians. But I am not fully convinced on what to buy, so Im sticking with the old King Cat for another year. Probably try and pick up a 09 or 2010 m1000 if I can find one near the end of the season. Im guessing 6500 to 7500 miles on this ole 900 probably more, and it still goes out and hangs with all the new iron every ride...

With very little work it won't be too hard to stomp an m1000 with some light mods. Just get a pipe can some pods and reeds to start and the sled will change from awesome to amazing. I love this chassis, and the engines never stop pulling!

There is a difference in the 2002 1/2 and the 2003 1/2. If the chaincase is sticking out below the belly pan and the running boards have little dimples on them, you have a 2002 1/2. All they did was take the mountain cat, droped the chaincase and put the 900 in it. The later models had the case covered by the bellypan and some humps with cross-slits on the boards. The later production models had a better suspention and were lighter weight. $500 to $750 less value in the early production.

Went and took a look at it today it is black and grey and has a crack in the hood he Frankensteined with zip ties about 7 inches long. He has a bar pack on it and the engine is clean it has SLP twins, vforce reeds, newer track, and I don't think his seat was stock? Just found out he was running boss nos on it should I be worried??

Hands down the 900 will out climb and handle a 02 doo I had one but i was working on it a lot. I had a problem with breaking the chain and others did also. If your happy with your sled i would stick with it but the 900 is going to be a lot easier to side hill and handle. and yes you will deffently need a higher seat.

Black/gray sounds like it is a 2002 1/2. Was it a fixed pin clutch? As far as using nos goes, the 900 handled it pretty good, depending oh how big a shot he was giving it. Check the compression. It sould have 19/43 gears witha 15 plate chain. As long as you keep good tension on the chain and it's in good shape, it will hold up alright. A lot of guys put hyvo chain and sprockets in because of their added strength. The 900 has a lot of torque!

The 2003's were black and gray also.

Only you know if it is worth it..............

Do you like these? If so, is it in good shape? I am guessing you can buy these all day for 3k. Maybe a little more for the nicer ones, with some goodies. I have seen Kingcats go for around 4k and a few for less. How much is the trailer worth? Add them up and see if the trade sounds good to you? I think these sleds are good sleds. Lots of goodies available for them. They are getting to be old school though. I like mine, but when funds allow I will get the 1000. Good luck -00's

I am in the same boat, but I pulled the trigger and bought mine for $2500

Mine was bought from a dealer and one of his employees owned it. They went through and checked her all over and there is roughly 2,000 - 2,500 miles on it. They put in a used speedo when I picked it up.

I think $2,500 was a good deal, my previous sled was a '98 600 EFI ZR LTD with the white hood which I streched to 136".
