2002 Summit 700

Are these good machines? I'm gonna probably be buying my neighbors soon and I wanted to know what problems I might expect out of it. It only has 995 miles on it!!! I've heard the clutches on these doo's kinda suck. What about the reverse, is it reliable? Its been sitting for 2-3 years but started up yesterday after about 10-15 pulls. What should I go through before running it and what oil can I use besides ski-doo oil. Anything else I should know? Thanks for any input!!

My 2002 Renegade 700 pulls great. It's got just under 6000km on it and to my knowledge there has never been any clutch problems. No problems ever with RER either. My 700 did blow last year, but that was from a head gasket that had a cunk blow out of it (maybe due to age or something? Donno) - that can happen to any sled.

The 700 itself hauls. I love mine. I personally just run Doo Semi-Synthetic oil in mine.

My advice: Buy it. Have the carbs cleaned out. Torque the primary clutch bolt every season. Enjoy! I have 8000 miles on mine and am finally rebuilding the engine now.

Yup... bullit proof engine, very reliable clutches and the 700 pulls hard... you can't go wrong especially with one with that low mileage... enjoy!

What they said; I bought a 700 at the recommendation of a Doo mechanic, I've been very happy. Mine has ~4000 miles, still runs/works very well. Was in his shop last week, an 02 was in his bay with a missing trailing arm/control arms, asked about it - "he tried to sell it, but no one wanted it, it has kinda high miles." 99xx. Never been opened.

Lots of 10k+ mile 700s on Dootalk. I plan on getting into mine next season, out of principle, but they seem to be REALLY durable motors. I wish mine only had 1000 miles on it. Either way. Not as strong as an 800 (duh), but how many mountain-ridden 800s have 4000+ miles on them? Not too many.....

I'm a ski-doo owner now!! Looks to be in great condition overall. I don't think I've ever owned a sled with under 1000 miles. Had a few questions... Should I take the carbs apart and clean 'em. I was told stabil was added to the gas when it was put away a few years ago. Looks like a belt exploded once upon a time as there is belt carnage all over the place. I was wondering if any belt cordage made its way behind the clutch and could eventually destroy that crank seal. Does this motor have a seal protector plate? I have also read that some folks have had issue with parts of the recoil melting and grenading. Should the 2 stroke oil be changed? Wondering if I can pressure wash under the hood or is this a bad idea? Can't wait to ride it and I'm praying for more snow. Thanks for the feedback...

I know the 02 800 had recoil issues, mine was upgraded at the dealers before I bought it and never had any issues, reflective foil tape on the recoil cover was one of the fixes, might at least doo that.
As stated above, 700 motor is very reliable and makes good power, add an HPS can or some brand, lightens them up and lets them breath better, reed spacers are usually run on the seris III motor to pull the reeds back out of the intake trast a little, can't really tell if it's all that noticable. I've run CarbonTech reeds on all my Doos also. Think Boysen may have bought them out lately. Any aftermarket reeds are going to help a little. DynoPort pipe and can wake them up well.
