1.Take an avalanche class.
2. Bring a beacon(digital and easy to use), shovel (large aluminum blade) and probe (260cm or longer, large diameter aluminum or carbon fiber). Know how to use it and have the avalanche knowledge so you can prevent most of the accidents.
3. Check the avalanche report. www.avalanche.org
4. Go with good people who are prepared to spend the night if something goes wrong and who also have the skills to rescue you. Don't ride with people that do not have avalanche education and the avalanche gear.
