I finally got my wifes sled working 07 Rev Summit X that I bought at a salvage yard. She is a trail rider and will be strapped to my 14 month old toddler, for his first ride.

Yes! I am extremely nervous if this is a good idea or not. Granby trails are pretty mild, and on a sunny day with a little antcip. fresh it could be fun.

I am open to any feedback from my fellow riders on riding with kids.

TIA

We were up Tues out of Idle Glen PL and the trails were in great shape. Gravel Mtn was pounded hard pack but I would be extremely weary of avy danger if a big storm hits Friday/Sat.

14 months sound a little young to be on a sled. He wont even know what going on, or remember. My mom doesnt even like me to take my little brothers and they are 21. I got in a bad accident on the trails at vail pass last winter. Someone was taking a blind corner way to fast, and collided with me. I almost died, luckily i just had a broken scalpula, and a punctured lung. If i was riding with an infant, it would have been dead. Too many risks in the backcountry, and i just seems like a pain to be toting around a baby. Im sure you could do it easily. My mom would flip if she heard about this

14 months? that seems pretty young. My son started riding in front of me at 3 years old and that was borderline. I could see a ride around the block but not a real ride.

I guide for Trailblazer in Fraser, and the youngest we will take on rides is 2.5/3. Every kid is different though, there are some 5 year olds that cry and whine so much they barely make it out of the tour base. With kids younger than 3, we don't usually take them on more than an hour long ride. The Grand Lake trails would be good, but I think the trails outside of Fraser may be a bit better for that kind of ride. Less crowded, and there is a cool play meadow a sledding hill right by the parking lot. It's the "Elk Creek" area, and to get there just take the road to the left of the original tubing hill and follow that back a few miles until you hit the parking lot.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. We just bought a helmet and goggles for him tonight, and he was pretty happy with them. One of my friends gave me his sons riding harness. My boy loved riding on a bike trailer at 7 months so I am hoping this would be similar.

J-Fly I read about your accident last year, that really pissed me off. People ride way to fast on heavily traveled trails at VP. I have thought about the collision potential, and would be in front of my wife and son.

right on the money imHo. cost to benefit ratio is way out of whack. childrens skulls are pretty soft....a bike helmet will offer no real protection. it wouldn't be you guys (overly careful, i'm sure) it would be the wild card. might pass on it now, to have many many rides later. .02
