166 belt?

I see posts about the different color of the lettering on the 166 belts. What gives? I see some white letters and some kind of orange. Are they the same or is there a difference and what is the difference? Is one better than the other? Thanks.

Size and dimensions are the exact same. Orange are the older and white the newer. There was some changes, although I don't know exactly what, to the compound and the white ones are claimed to have a shorter life than the older ones. I haven't really noticed a difference as hard mountain riding is typically very hard on belts and anything over 500 miles is a bonus.

The White lettered belt is slightly narrower. I was chasing a loss of RPMS all season and had NO idea it was the new belt I put on but that is the only variable I had so that must have been the culprit.
I had an old Orange lettered and compared it to the White lettered. The Orange was completely shot and was still wider then the White which had some miles left on it.

You can still find some orange 166 belts on ebay otherwise go with a 188 belt.

Looking for length, width and angle

old sled 2004 800 summit 417 300 383 and predecessor 417 300 166 ($99.99)

2005 Renegade 600SDI 417 300 197 ($86.99)

old sled 2006 RT1000 417 300 189 ($149.99)

2010 800 Summit 417 300 377 ($149.99)

I have run a 166 on the Renegade 600SDI with good results. The 166 has the top cogs for cooling, the 197 does not.

My interest is knowing the sizes. Stuff happens in the mountains and sometimes you gotta "make doo."

Potential scenario: Go to Winthrop for xmas. Blow belt on 2010 Summit 800. Put spare 377 on Summit. Now I have no more spare 377. Wifes 600SDI has a 197 on it with a (used) 166 spare. Closest Doo dealer is in Okanagon - an hour away, possibly two hours in bad weather - I think they are closed on sundays/holidays....

i used to use the 166 belt but now i use the 377 belt more expensive but a harder belt seems to work well

On another note. Usually aftermarket belts= NO NO or bad opinions. I have tried many of them on my REV cause they were dirt cheap or free. Only one I had good luck with was the Gates Extreme Kevlar belt. Ran and held up equally as good as my orange 166 without chasing RPMs.

Just a thought if you look elsewhere.
