163x3 suspension tuning

What have you guys been doing to try and get the front end down on this sled when climbing? My sled has the SLP pipe/can on it and is running damn good but even the stock 163x3's in our group have been having issues.

On a steep climb in good snow the skis are 1-2 ft in the air and even small movements has the sled changing directions.

IFS shocks have only 2 turns of preload on the spring, FTS is set 1/4" softer, RTS is 1/4" stiffer, handle bars rolled forward (but not yet to max forward mark). Last weekend I even shortened the limiter strap 5/8". All of this has helped, but still isnt enough. Standard WE shocks.

Called to check on the 2x ARC system today but its still a month out. Might have to try the KISS coupler. Thoughts? Eric

I have always ran the center shock as loose as possible, just enough to keep the spring on. Of course this worked on my turbo pro. But not sure on this Axys as I have not done touch tuning yet. Soft center and stiff rear for climbing has worked for me.

Crank that rear spring!!! :)
It will make it harsh in the chatter but it works.
Like 3/4" stiffer.........

At 220# i ended up putting a stiffer progressive stainless spring from rcs in the rear to completely cure the over backwards business.
Also makes the sled plush in the chatter and very anti bottom in the g outs.

Shortening the limiter will greatly increase the sag.
Makes for an unpleasant trail experience.

It's still fun but controlled. :)

I'm going to put the limiter strap back to stock, I didnt like the side effects of that adjustment.
I'll go even softer on the FTS and stiffer on the RTS and see if that does the trick.
Thanks, Eric

That should work better for you- also yes crank the FTS down to just to hold the spring- I have about 5-3/4 " of threads showing on the RTS. measuring from the collar down to the last thread showing.- Little stiff in the rear, but best I have found so far with the stock springs.

I've always measured my spring length "unloaded" to make adjustments. Currently following my first ride on my 155x2.6 800 axys pro, I made the following adjustments: RTS Spring 10" FTS Spring 8.5" IFS Springs 9.75" Handlebars "0" Position. Again those measurements are with skid and/or front suspension suspended in the air. I believe the IFS Springs and RTS are set ~3/8" stiffer than stock, and the FTS ~1/8" looser. I have a feeling this thing will ride like a mack truck now, but, the few early season sidehill lines I tried to get in, in marginal snow, I was fighting the sled the entire time to hold its line and not shoot uphill.

Would you happen to have a part # for the stiffer progressive spring?
Thanks in advance.

Ya I noticed with the AXYS it seems to want to wheelie more(which I like sometimes) and trench sometimes compared to the Pro track. I found after riding more that if I modulate the throttle quite a bit it seems to reduce trenching and gets me back on step on the snow. Also keeps the front end down. I have the 155x3" though, and I think I will try the ARC once it is available. I love to have a sled that's playful, yet manageable during certain conditions, so the ARC sounds like the cure.

MUCH better today.Limter strap in factory position, kept the IFS shocks very soft, the FTS is also very soft (only 1 thread on the shock body showing below the jam nut), added another 1/2" of preload to the RTS.

Will now fine tune with the RTS preload. Thanks! Eric

Do you know what poundage the heavier spring is that u installed by any chance I see the upgraded oem spring is 250lb/inch that u can order talked to zbroz they were recommending a 10×2.5by 300 lb spring as I'm a big guy

Any new info on setup. I have the 3 inch with clicker shocks and it pushes on the trail, not really bad bud noticeable. I like how it handles in the powder right know. Anyone else have the same problem?:beer;:beer;

I'm on the 163 x 2.6. Previously the sled pushed really bad as you are mentioning. I rode the last two days and really got my suspension dialed - granted it was in DEEP pow or deep mashed potato trails on the way out. I loved it all day. I wouldn't consider myself a particularly fast trail rider but I was ripping through nasty trails with this with confidence. Don't really care about the trail manners either but it was just an added bonus; most importantly to me, this was great in the technical stuff. Only mod on the sled is a Diamond S quiet can and I'm just under 180lbs before gear.

Up front I had the coil overs very soft - with the suspension unloaded it was only about 2 threads tighter than having the spring almost come loose. On the reservoir I believe I am 4 or 5 clicks in from the softest setting. FTS has 3 threads showing. RTS I don't have a thread count but it is fairly tight/stiff. Reservoir 7 or 8 clicks in from the softest setting. Hope this helps. Did everything well... gets on top of the snow, digs out of trenches, rolls over well, climbs well (just need to dial clutching)
