162" in the back of a 5.5' bed?

I have a M1k 162" and am wondering if anyone has ever put one in the bed of truck with a bed length of 5.5' (Ford Supercrew short bed). I figure with the tailgate down I have about 7 feet of bed length but am just wondering if there will be some serious overhang?

Not an issue...

I put a 162" tapex in the back of the new tundra short box! Sure it's going to hang out but strap it in and you'll have no issues;)

Sounds good, have any pics by any chance? I was thinking about something like this (has a 1,000 pound load rating)

Wouldn't that be a 6.5' bed though? Not the 'super short' bed? By my calculations it would be more like 4' out the back.

Seeing that makes me want to but a short box truck.....

Yea I thought it was pretty nifty. If you guys are wondering why I'm thinking this...

I put my 162 M8 in the back of my 03 Short Box (6'3" box) with a metal rollup tonneau cover that takes up 10" or so. No problems. Driven 700 miles on the interstate with it in there.

I wouldn't worry about it at all.

With a roll-bak aluminum tonneau cover taking up about 12-15" of my 6.5' box GMC, I was a little concerned about all the weight being placed on the tailgate (1M 900 151"). The tailgate would actually bow (too much for my liking) under the weight.

great sled

Been in Super crew a few times no problems

Man that sled paint job is cool! I love that look from the way back. :face-icon-small-coo

2nd thing: I'd love some more info on the sled tray thing... looks like a custom build. I've thought about the same type of thing as the one with the hitch mounted stinger shown early in the tread... but this new idea gets the tail gate out of the way (no ruined tailgate is good) and looks like the pipe at the rear of the bed is a pivot point. i dig the tie in at the hitch to put the weight load where it belongs. that makes me think the sled is pulled backward on a "mini deck" of sorts and pivots down so the sled can be backed off... and the reverse to load it. is that right?

it would be great to have more pix! great to have more tech data about the build and how it works. cool to know what you might change to make it better. i've seen the vids on youtube of other ideas (wood types mostly) and a vid on this would be nice.

really got my fab brain kicked into gear... good thing home depot is closed. hahaha

We had a guy haul a 166 in the back of an avalanche from iowa to wyoming and back with no problems at all.
